Yup, was overhyped.

I read it and def enjoyed it – but could agree, over hyped. It drags out and was hard for me to push through but I can honestly say I thoroughly liked it.

Enjoyable but over hyped. It WAS refreshing to read a fantasy not set in a Western worldview.

I didn’t think it was overhyped- for me, it deserved every bit of praise it got. Fantastic book ?

Definitely over hyped. Wasn’t developed enough.

@Taylor agree. It was sooooo overhyped and mediocre.

Taylor

Like nothing was developed. Not the magic system or the clans. The more I think about it the more I’m bothered by it

I totally agree. I DNF’d it because I just couldn’t get into it. The writing and story was very choppy to me.

Yes, I listened to it and found it fun and interesting! People kept saying it wasn’t up to the hype so I didn’t go in with any expectations. It was well worth it!

Hated it and threw in the towel like 3 chapters in.

Same! I think I tried around 2 or 3 chapters and DNF’d it.

@Laura I was so hyped for it… I even preordered it! But I just could not do her writing it was so repetitive!

Laura

@Bobbie Yes! I felt like things were told over and over. And I thought it was choppy also.

@Laura exactly!

I read it and enjoyed some aspects of the book. I did feel the author relied far too heavily on some tropes that didn’t really contribute to the overall plot. I’ll continue th series because there’s a few storylines I want to see the conclusion of.

I read it and enjoyed it, for a first book I think she did a good job, she needs to work on her world building a little bit more, which I’m hoping that will happen in book 2

I bought it when everyone was raving about it, but was never all that interested. Then the author did some things that I’m not a fan of, so it put me off it completely.

@Anna the Nora Roberts thing?

Gunnel

Same here! Now I don’t even wanna pick it up!

Anna

@Taylor Yeah! Normally I don’t really follow that stuff of care much, but this one just totally rubbed me the wrong way. I only read my first Nora Roberts book this year too, so I hadn’t even known either of them well.

I read it a couple months ago and wasn’t a fan, but I know a lot of people who disagree with me. Give it a read and see what you think!
