The family in the book and their particular experience was fictional but it was based on the very real stories of families like theirs during that period of history. Google Georgia Tann.

Thought it was poorly written. It could have been such a better book. My book club was divided. Didnt like the modern day romance sort of tacked on to the historical story. There is a nin fiction book written about the subject. As an adoptive parent I did find it a heart breaking story.

I finished it about a month ago. It is disturbing and sad, but is it all that different from the babies who (may or may not) be given up by their parents and placed in the states? All those children adopted from other countries? How do you KNOW unless you actually talked to those parents, that the children were given up voluntarily. Same kind of situation. Makes you think about adoption, especially blind adoption.
