@Megan his brothers also wrote books. I cried and got sick. This shows how people can over come what happens to them also this shows what alot say their childhood makes them who they are when they are bad but this should show u everyone is different
@Danielle I still remember how I felt for that poor child who was in the office because of the way he smelled. ? You know how you find the right book at the right time? I think it was the wrong book at the wrong time. Sounds like “maybe” I should try it again.
@Terry yes I understand that totally. This book made me sad but mostly made me mad that the teachers and social workers cared more about the parents and what she said then the child. You should reread it but it is sad and heartbreaking and some parts sickening that a parent can treat their first born son that way and call it love
Yes, I’ve read all three and went to see him speak at a local university. His journey is inspirational, although some of it is quite disturbing. His childhood was a nightmare.
@Tracey he wasn’t outed. Family said it wasn’t true but that’s to be expected. It is a fact though that he was taken out of the home. At worst he wasn’t accurate but that too wouldn’t be a surprised from a child who had been abused for so long.
I haven’t found anything saying he said it wasn’t true. One of his brothers even published their own book staying Dave’s book was true and recounting the abuse he suffered after Dave was removed from the home.
@Tracey, it was true from his perspective. He was abused, but he may not have recollected all details exactly as it happened. As an abused child, his perspective and memory may not always be factually accurate, but that is to be expected. It was his reality and his nightmare of a childhood.
Yes it is not an easy ready. Such a sad story for a child to be subjected to such treatment is so sad. I believe their are several written by this author
Read it many yeats ago. So sad. Even sadder is that it is a true story. Make sure you read book 2 and 3. Especially 3 to see how a child raised like this turns out as an adult.
He continued with what he learned from his parents, no I think he decided he would bury the past or maybe it was something else. Actually I can’t tell you or I would get hate mail. ???
Yes! I read all three books. So good!

No and once he was outed for it not being an autobiography I never had the desire.
@Tracey he wasn’t outed. Family said it wasn’t true but that’s to be expected. It is a fact though that he was taken out of the home. At worst he wasn’t accurate but that too wouldn’t be a surprised from a child who had been abused for so long.
@Mary he admitted it wasn’t true after he published A Man Called Dave.
When did he say that?
I haven’t found anything saying he said it wasn’t true. One of his brothers even published their own book staying Dave’s book was true and recounting the abuse he suffered after Dave was removed from the home.
@Cindy yes and actually 2 brothers wrote books stating alot of the same stuff and saying they wished they could of helped david
@Tracey, it was true from his perspective. He was abused, but he may not have recollected all details exactly as it happened. As an abused child, his perspective and memory may not always be factually accurate, but that is to be expected. It was his reality and his nightmare of a childhood.
Yes. And it reminds me of another person’s story that I know so I cried my eyes out.
@Marie that’s more harder to read if you know someone personally going through or gone through similar things
