Occasionally but not often. I usually only end up on an author’s site if I’m looking for information about when a book is coming out (and I can’t find the info on Amazon or elsewhere).
I go to Kim Harrison, Brent Weeks, and others as I look up things.
My website sees close to 1k different users a month, so I assume that really famous authors probably see closer to 20k unique ones.

Many Authors – especially of Historical Fiction – do write interesting blog articles with background information. For instance, I am doing a “Fact in Fiction” series on my Legends Of The Winged Scarab series.
