Tried reading it and got maybe an hour into it before I gave up it was so boring and just kept going on and on about stupid things that didn’t even matter to the story and just I couldn’t make myself keep going.

I read it! The author’s writing was very descriptive. The settings are very elaborate and the author spends a lot of time helping the reader visualize. Our book club read it. Some absolutely loved it and others liked it. If your into magic and descriptive writing, you’ll like it.

Does anyone know of any similar books? By “similar,” I mean circus settings, magical.

Have you read Angela Carter’s A Night at the Circus? I enjoyed it but realise that some people may find her work challenging.
