Hardback books should come with a code to download the e-book version. This would be life changing.

Or audio! ❤ when I buy vinyl they give me digital downloads. It’s amazing.
@Ashley Yessss! ?? Blue rays come with a code for digital download codes!
It would, but then I could in theory just give the code to someone else
@David They could make them one time use. Like textbooks for college.
You could also read and pass it along too.
@David blue ray movies often come with dvd and digital download.
@Tara that is true, and I’m not against the idea, I’m just saying that it’s probably because of that reason. Like for me as someone who has 2 consoles, it would be awesome for me to just buy a game one time, and then be able to play it on my Switch and PS4, but there’s a reason why that can’t happen.
I don’t see why this would be an issue. If it was one use only what would it matter who used the code? Either way it’s getting read.
@David but what’s the difference between that and letting someone borrow thw physical book??
@David I work in publishing and I think the real reason is that most publishers don’t produce their own ebooks. They sell the rights for other companies to produce them. Plus how would you know the format? Kindle, ePub, Adobe? It’s a bit different than a digital download code because how you access it will be different
Couldn’t agree more
I wish.
Alot of movies do it. You buy the hard copy and they give you a free digital copy. Amazon gives you free digital tracks of all hard copy music you buy. It could def be done for books.
@Renee Exactly! Why isn’t this a thing already?
I’m surprised Amazon hasnt jumped on it!
@Renee Seriously! It makes so much sense!
Yesss. I would pay a few extra dollars if it meant I’d get the audio and physical copy of a book.
@Kimberly Yes I was just discussing this! I would pay a little more for a “combo”. I just don’t want to pay full price twice.
I know I think this all the time! Like how DVDs have digital copies. Some sort of petition needs to be started
@Kara Yessss! ?? my co worker and I were just discussing this!
I’ve been thinking this for years! Yessss please!
I just posted this the other day on my page! I love having the physical books for my shelf but my Kindle is so much more convenient to take to work and in the car. Who do we need to speak to in order to make this happen?? ?
@Shelby I am so down for trying to get something organized. I will never not buy hardbacks, but I find myself buying an e-book if I forget my book at home to read at work.
Yes pleeeeaseeee
I literally think this all the time!! Like how you can spend a few dollars more and buy the digital version of a movie with the dvd.
yes! this would be amazing, I love love physical books, but my ipad fits in my purse and I’ve found reading on the kindle app on my phone so handy if I get stuck somewhere with nothing to do
Same with movie bought from, like, amazon. They are missing an opportunity.
That’d be cool but they’d have to plastic wrap all the books so people don’t just stand in the bookstore stealing the codes.
@Tahna That would be a downside. Maybe they could make a website where you sent your proof of purchase then send you the e-book?
@Jessica ohhh that would be a good idea. They could also do what they do with textbooks where there is like a paper insert glued on the inside with a tab that you rip off and it exposes the code.
@Tahna Yes!! I definitely think it could be done without excess waste. Or even have the codes kept behind the counter and you don’t get it till you check out? Or it prints on the receipt?
@Jessica those are both good ideas too. So they definitely have some options to make it happen.
@Tahna Fingers crossed it does!
I could not agree more.
Especially for how much they cost these days ?
@Alicia yessssss! I hate having to pay double! If I buy the hardback I’m already buying the most expensive version. I hate having to pay twice.
I have said this so many times! Amen!
This reminded me of this joke 🙂
The textbooks we use at my work does this. It is SO smart.
