I think I am officially done loaning books out. I don’t get them back or if I do get them back it takes months and the condition of my books are terrible. It makes me mad and sad at the same time.
I just gift them – if someone asks if I have a certain book my answer is alway one of two options. “Yes but I don’t lend that one out because it’s too special” or (and this one is 99% of the time the answer) “yeah, yours if you want it!”
I only loan to my parents and siblings. We pretty much have one big lending library between the six of us so it works. We have a great respect for books.
I always read a book and then happily give it away for someone else to read and tell them to keep passing it on. If I were to keep all the books I’ve read I’d have to buy another house to accommodate them Plus it makes room for another new book
So many books, and I’ve lent them all over the place. If I love it I want to share it. But I also do want it back, although there have been a couple I bought 3 times.
Ive learned my lesson lol.. they never come back or if they do they come back damaged… lol no trustworthy friends that treat them as well as I do.. so No, I no longer loan out books, I tell them if they want a loan to go to the library ????
I don’t really loan….I’ll give someone a book to read and it doesn’t matter to me if I get it back or not. I only have a couple of books I hold onto because of sentimental reasons.
Oooh. I have a problem doing that. I kind of have a thing about the spine getting bent, or dog ears on pages, or food splotches. Plus books never finding their way home. No, I don’t lend out my books. Silly, but I just can’t.
my books are my pride and joy. I only loan if I know I will get it them back. I always tell my children, when I die, my books will be in my will on who will get them. Very very picky about my books. They are my gold!
I don’t have many physical books, most of mine are on my kindle but I have sharing issues. I always have. So, if someone asked to borrow something I’d kindly say no, honestly
I have a Kindle but whatever book I find, I do Book Fairy and leave them somewhere. Many years ago I learned never to lend. People generally don’t care of anything, especially if it’s not theirs.
Some books are forever keepers for me only. In the past I found it hard to find people who loved and respected books as I do. My feelings have changed since I was gifted with a wonderful ‘ Little Free Library ” , I now find it easy to part with some of my books it’s so nice to see people get excited over my beautiful little library
I am one of few people that doesn’t re-read a book or keep them. I have several friends/family that read the same things I do so we all share and once everyone has read the book I pass it on to our local library for their book sale.
I used to be very free with loaning books but a couple of years ago, I loaned a book and the lady wouldn’t return it. She kept making excuses and I was very patient with her as I knew she was having some difficulties.. It was one that was quite valuable and I never should have loaned it out, but she was a nice lady and so I did. Anyway, that isn’t the bad part. The bad part is that she died. ?
I don’t loan….i will give a book away when I know that the person is a real reader. I seldom re-read books, but I do have some series that I have kept because I enjoyed them so much
I once loaned a book to a friend at work and when she gave it back, she laughingly told me how she had used it as a coaster. That was the last time I loaned a book to anyone other than my mother or my husband.
I used to. I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! I never get them back . . . and I don’t write down whom I’ve loan what to . . . so I end up looking for it 5-10 years later thinking I have then I remember . . . “oh yeah, I loaned it to such and such a few years back . . .” and I can’t remember who such and such is 😉
I tend not to get them back or have to ask several times and when they are returned with coffee stains etc by someone who just doesn’t care and are damaged it makes you mad….I will lend them to someone I trust only.
The problem with loaning books is that they don’t always come back. Even when they are friends who swear they will return them, they don’t always. And then you’re stuck with not having your copy. I loaned out book two in the Harry Potter series (hardback) and never got it back. Groan.
I learned a long time ago that if you lend anyone a book ( or a movie or a CD) you have to be resigned to the idea that you’re probably never going to see it again. I only lend books to people I really trust or that I love more than the book. That’s saying quite a bit.
I’m still crying over my “Coldest Winter Ever” book that was loaned TWICE and taken both times. Clearly I didn’t learn my lesson the first time and thought it was the individual’s issue until it happened again. Now I have a collector’s edition and will never loan it.
no not unless I plan on just giving them it as a gift. I wouldn’t expect to get it back if I loaned it. But I also rarely read a book twice because then there is no suspense, I already know what happens. LOL
Depends on if I trust the person that wants to borrow my books. also if I’m borrowing any of their books
None of my friends read so I’m good..
Nooo ??
No. No. No. I learned my lesson. I don’t lend to anyone, not even my mother or daughter. I would rather buy them a copy then to lend out one of mine.
never.
I think I am officially done loaning books out. I don’t get them back or if I do get them back it takes months and the condition of my books are terrible. It makes me mad and sad at the same time.
When I loan a book, it usually turns into a permanent thing, so, no, I don’t loan.
I just gift them – if someone asks if I have a certain book my answer is alway one of two options. “Yes but I don’t lend that one out because it’s too special” or (and this one is 99% of the time the answer) “yeah, yours if you want it!”

Nope if they’re outside my family. Did it twice and never got the books back.
I will make an exception for my mom though. We swap books back and forth without any issues.
Only to those I know will take care of them!
So many books, and I’ve lent them all over the place. If I love it I want to share it. But I also do want it back, although there have been a couple I bought 3 times.
I know you’ll find thus weird but once I read a book I have no use for it and it goes in cellar until I can give it away.
Nope, nope, nope! I’d rather buy someone their own copy! I don’t lend out my precious babies!
Not unless I read it
Never
I loan to people I trust, like my sister, mother in law, or close friends who I know will respect them and give them back!
Only books I don’t need to have back or I don’t mind buying again.
In Sanskrit (ancient language of India) a saying goes like this _ Three things do not return if they enter into others’ hands_ woman, money and books!
That is great!!!
I loan books out all the time but there are a few favorites that I have my copy and a loaning copy.
Yes! Me too.
Ive learned my lesson lol.. they never come back or if they do they come back damaged… lol no trustworthy friends that treat them as well as I do.. so No, I no longer loan out books, I tell them if they want a loan to go to the library ????
ALWAYS!! I’ll lend a book to almost anyone I love sharing book love
After loaning numerous books with promises to return …always unfulfilled, I no longer loan.
I hate to loan out books. I dont think they will take care of it like i do
It depends on who I’m loaning them to…
Nope, won’t do it again. Still waiting for a friend to return about 4 books that I loaned her last year. Frustrating
Please see my comment !!
I don’t loan. I’ve had terrible experiences when I have—books not returned; first editions returned with bindings destroyed
I will loan books to people I know will give them back and take care of them.
I don’t really loan….I’ll give someone a book to read and it doesn’t matter to me if I get it back or not. I only have a couple of books I hold onto because of sentimental reasons.

I don’t really loan, if I give it to you it’s yours.
…best way to be!
Same here.
I loan my books only to my friend, Michele, because we like the same types of books and swap them when we know the other will love it?
I GIVE books that I know I have enjoyed but won’t re-read. This is easier than not having it returned.
I don’t.
Only my niece
Gladly
I only loan them to my sister, no one else can touch them. They are my precious.
I usually have 2 copies of my favorites or am willing to buy myself another if it isn’t returned, because I like sharing books with others.
Nope nope nope.. I loaned quite a few books and have never gotten them back. Never again.
Nope nope nope. Only like 2 people are trusted and even then I get anxiety. I have tons of rules for those borrowers. Lol
I usually don’t “loan” books. I may hand someone a book but them I don’t expect to get it back. It’s easier that way.
I used to loan out books until they came back severely damaged. Now I don’t loan them out.
I don’t have many physical books, most of mine are on my kindle but I have sharing issues. I always have. So, if someone asked to borrow something I’d kindly say no, honestly
I love loaning books to my friends and family. As long as they give them back.
I loan to my mom. That’s it.
Good morning
only to someone you trust
Gladly
If it’s a special one there’s one person I loan to. And there’s 2 people I give to:)
I don’t think you often get them back. Libraries are perfect examples.
I don’t loan things to people. In the last 10 years I’ve loaned out maybe 2 books. I will give them to someone and then buy myself a new book.
Would give the books away.
After I read them.
Right now I give to library.
Letting
Others
Abuse?
Nope!
I prefer to give them away…
I have a Kindle but whatever book I find, I do Book Fairy and leave them somewhere. Many years ago I learned never to lend. People generally don’t care of anything, especially if it’s not theirs.
I’ve been burned a few times, so I’m very selective who I loan my books to. Normally, just my sister or my niece.
I don’t loan my books.

I now have one person I trust loaning to. My sister in law. And there are still certain books I’d never lend out.

I don’t loan out any books

Nope.
I do not loan out books. After a number of irritating occurrences, I no longer consider loaning out a book. I do, will give some books away.
Usually after I read them. I don’t mind.
Whenever I have loaned books, I had to ask numerous time for it to be returned, so I no longer loan.
I really don’t know anyone who would be interested in borrowing my books! So i don’t have to worry about it.
I just give mine away, I have so many.
I’ve learned that loaning books is a mistake if you ever want them back. So I give books instead
Did it once and never again.
I never loan them.I like my books to be clean and neat.
I loan to my mom that’s all
I don’t loan my books at all. I do give them away when finished reading unless they are favorites though.
I used to. I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! I never get them back . . . and I don’t write down whom I’ve loan what to . . . so I end up looking for it 5-10 years later thinking I have then I remember . . . “oh yeah, I loaned it to such and such a few years back . . .” and I can’t remember who such and such is 😉
I dont loan books.
I use to didn’t but then thought I need to share them with the hopes it will inspire others to read!
Depending on the person, I don’t mind. But if I don’t know them well and I loan a book to them, I just assume it’s probably not coming back
Nope.
No
NEVER
Only to my besties
I would love to lend books so that my friends could enjoy what I read
I rarely get them back, so I have gotten much more hesitant. If I don’t mind losing one, I’ll say okay.
Nope!
I consider sharing my books a gift, I don’t expect them back.
I dont like lending. No one ever returns.
That’s what librarys are for! ?
I lend freely. It’s okay if they don’t come back, because I can usually get it again. And I like discussing books with my friends.
only if I feel certain they are actually going to read it instead of letting it pile up unread
I don’t – ever!
I used to loan out books. But when I didn’t get them returned to me, I stopped loaning them out.
Nope
I never loan books; I gift them. I feel like books are meant to share and share and share!
my view exactly, @Cori
Right. If I let someone have a book, I do not expect it back.
I don’t loan or borrow. I do gift though.
no problem…as long as they aren’t MY books….
If it’s a book that I’am keeping, NO WAY! , been burned in the past.
I tend not to get them back or have to ask several times and when they are returned with coffee stains etc by someone who just doesn’t care and are damaged it makes you mad….I will lend them to someone I trust only.

Only if I don’t mind it not coming back. Otherwise, no.
That’s what a library is for. Unless they are a very good friend and they know how much you value your books.
no not unless I plan on just giving them it as a gift. I wouldn’t expect to get it back if I loaned it. But I also rarely read a book twice because then there is no suspense, I already know what happens. LOL
Once I am done with a book….I am done with a book. So….fine!
Not anymore. Too many of my favorite books ?were never returned
Give, don’t loan.
No way
