Dystopian novel about teachers being captive at their schools and forced to teach state mandated curriculum and history. One teacher begins to teach a small group of “gifted” students in secret about real history and the arts. They’re children of high ranking officials but most are excited about what they’re learning until one of them betrays the group to their parents.
I’m a teacher and was laughing to myself about how kids practically think we’re chained to our desks and never leave, and then I thought, but what if we WERE?

@Katy it vaguely reminded me of a part of the Wool trilogy where the old lady would “make up” stories of an older world
Isn’t that basically the plotline to Dumbledore’s Army? I like it through in a new incarnation
And also those gifted students could be the heroes who will overtake the corrupt government by using what they have learned from the said teacher. ☺
