I never read it, but I read criticisms of its treatment of disability. That the main character wants to die, because of his disability, which is a really problematic attitude.
This is why I haven’t read or seen it. My brother is in a wheelchair and I work with lots of people with disabilities some with even less physical control than this guy and they lead fun amazing lives.
This idea being positive and romanticized is all very hitler to me.
I really don’t like this new trend of using disability/inspiration porn as literary devices. The Annie Segarra video linked below does a great job of going into detail.
I also agree with the trend of using disabilities to inspire writing. I know someone who had a normal, wonderful life and lost all 4 limbs in Afghanistan. He could have been depressed and wallowed in self pity and loathing. Instead he has written a book, has a non-profit, has a veterans retreat for fellow wounded vets and is a motivational speaker. He chalks it up to having a bad Monday at work and everyone has bad days. He’s really remarkable.
I have just finished it I enjoyed it I watched the film 1st so I knew what was going to happen so half way thro I didn’t wanna read the rest but I read it x
It was ok for me, though I was expecting something different. Lou pretty much annoyed me all the time. It looked like the author is preparing us for some big character development which basically didn’t happen for me, so I’ve sold the book and decided not to continue with After You. I’ve also watched the movie after reading the book and that was a mistake. Without the context some of the movie scenes were a bit too far-fetched in my opinion.
@Sofia I disagree. Even the author said she was never going to write a follow up but did it for the fans. I could tell, it didn’t really have a plot. It’s like everything just happened. The plot twist was not really a plot twist. It was more of Lou being an idiot.
Even though it sounds like I hated them i didn’t. I continued reading. There’s something about these books. They are really good crying books. Sometimes you need a good crying book.
@Sofia You may want to know (if you don’t already) that there’s going to be a third book in the series called Still Me. According to Goodread its publication will be in January 2018.
I liked the book better than the movie. I think the book presented a more well-rounded viewpoint of how people who have a disabilty vary in how they view their life (just like people without a disability vary in how they view their life).
I understand why people are unhappy with the book’s outcome, but considering *partial spoilers*…
that suicide rates are higher for individuals who have MS and spinal cord injuries than the rest of the population and that physician-assisted euthenasia is allowed in certain countries, I think the topics raised by the book are good, pertinent topics worthy of discussion that would otherwise go largely ignored.
I absolutely loved it. I remember it was June of 2015. I was reading it in my little sister’s room because my aunt was visiting and was staying in my room. I was about ten or so pages from the end, bawling my eyes out, and my family starting calling me, looking for me. So I hid in my sister’s closet and finished the book. Lol. I will never forget bawling in my sister’s closet in the dark while reading that book. ❤ I loved it. So hardbreaking. But really makes you value your own life and your situation.
I loved the book long before the movie came out, before everyone knew about it, read the others as soon as they came out and even though I kind of worry about seeing the film of a book already I actually loved that too!! ??
I liked it! Wouldn’t say loved though. Very sad.
I felt my heart break into tiny pieces!
Really enjoyed it, but took a while to get into for me. But overall, it was a great read.
My grandma asked me why I was crying. I was just too broken!
It was ok. Not amazing or anything worth the hype. But it was worth a read. Me After You isn’t worth the read, however.
Really? I enjoyed it. Really.
I was wondering whether or not to read that.. I felt the same as you about MBY so I’ll probably skip it.
@Daisy I think it was her character. Haha I really couldn’t stand her. ??♀️ but I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@Ronda I think it kind of ruins the ending of MBY.
Loved it!
But it left me asking for what could’ve beens
There is, After You. I didn’t care for that one.
Big box of tissues
I cried a lot!
I cried. a lot. remembering it can make me sad. by the way, hello squishy kyungsoo ???
Looking for a thought about a book and look what I found? A thoughg and an Exo-L

I’m a loyal chanyeol fan ?

Awesome books!!!! It is great but it is a tearjerker!
I agree! Cried a lot 🙁
Guys i haven’t read yet, is it worth??
It’s worth it for me. You’ll need to cry or you’ll feel very very broken
Oh really, i’ll read then i’ll tell how was it
Yes it is
Thank u guys i will read it as soon as possible
Its great…. but yeah, you’d need big box of tissues….
I never read it, but I read criticisms of its treatment of disability. That the main character wants to die, because of his disability, which is a really problematic attitude.
Read it. That’s all I have to say.
Why?

I didn’t like the movie 🙁
This is why I haven’t read or seen it. My brother is in a wheelchair and I work with lots of people with disabilities some with even less physical control than this guy and they lead fun amazing lives.
This idea being positive and romanticized is all very hitler to me.
Not the best book, but I liked it ??♀️?
Loved it!!!
I really don’t like this new trend of using disability/inspiration porn as literary devices. The Annie Segarra video linked below does a great job of going into detail.
It’s perfect!!
A book that requires a box of tissues!

I loved it. And cried.
I have just finished it I enjoyed it I watched the film 1st so I knew what was going to happen so half way thro I didn’t wanna read the rest but I read it x
Have heard of the book and movie but haven’t read it or saw the movie
It is a good read.
It made me cry. Like I want to dumb the book to somewhere but can’t. It broke my heart!
The fact that it’s controversial and polarising shows that you have to read it and decide for yourself!
It was ok for me, though I was expecting something different. Lou pretty much annoyed me all the time. After you is worth reading, you should try it,it has a major plot twist and I think that’s the thing that jojo was preparing us for in me before you
Agree!!! Also, I felt like the author was trying to emotionally manipulate me. I was not okay with that.
@Sofia she never wanted to write after you. She only did because people wouldn’t stop begging for it.
@Sofia I disagree. Even the author said she was never going to write a follow up but did it for the fans. I could tell, it didn’t really have a plot. It’s like everything just happened. The plot twist was not really a plot twist. It was more of Lou being an idiot.

@Brandi really?i didn’t even knew there was a sequel until I randomly saw it at the store ?
@Hilda I agree,I didn’t knew that she wasn’t going to write a sequel
@Sofia yeah. I think it’s in the afterward or something. I swore I read it in the book. But it’s possible I read it in an interview.
@Sofia You may want to know (if you don’t already) that there’s going to be a third book in the series called Still Me. According to Goodread its publication will be in January 2018.
@Tihomira oh really?Thank you,i didn’t know!
@Sofia Yep. Here’s a link to it in Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35791968-still-me
A masterpiece
It was ok. I haavent finished it because I’m having a hard time staying interested. The film was pretty decent though.
Cried ?
Loved it! Eventhough it broke my heart.
I’m absolutely in love with that book ❤
Loved it, loved it! Great book. It gives you a completely different perspective on life!
beautiful
The book over all was ok.
But the end was lovely. Made me smile. Glad the author didn’t chicken out.
Cried for the end of the book ?
I loved Me Before You, but I didn’t enjoy After You.
I’ve heard they make Louisa very unlikable. Was that your opinion too?
I liked the book better than the movie. I think the book presented a more well-rounded viewpoint of how people who have a disabilty vary in how they view their life (just like people without a disability vary in how they view their life).

I absolutely loved it. I remember it was June of 2015. I was reading it in my little sister’s room because my aunt was visiting and was staying in my room.
