Does your book club have a “vibe” to it? (Not sure if that makes sense or not) I haven’t joined book clubs I have been invited to in the past because the books they tended to choose were not things I would read. Might help us with suggestions…

@Kindy We change every month! Each month, one person chooses the book that everyone will read. Last month, we read a biography, and the month before that, we read a love story. I wanted now a thriller, something exciting!

I’ve been leading a book club for a while and the book that has led to the best discussion (people still bring it up at least once every meeting and we read it over a year ago) was The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin

I found “Providence” by Caroline Kepnes really interesting and I bet the conversations about it would be very cool if a group read it together. Kind of has a The OA vibe to it which I really liked.

If you want a nonfiction book, “The Cooking Gene: A Journey Through African American Culinary History in the Old South” by Michael W. Twitty is an interesting one. There’s so much information packed into this one and a really beautiful relation that the author makes to his own history. I think this is one of those ones that can really push people to read outside of their comfort zone a learn a bit about America’s past and the journey to understanding ourselves through its history.

Just finished Blood, Water, Paint and it is a MUST READ! It’s also very fast as most of it is written in verse.

I really enjoyed Bird Box and there would be a lot to discuss about it. Also, it’s short. I have 2 kids, very little free time/energy and I think I got through it in 2 days.
