Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters! She is a female Indiana Jones who solves mysteries with her archeologist husband Emerson in the Egypt of the late eighteen to early nineteen hundreds. Humorous and fun! 🙂
Don’t know how ‘cool’ he is, but Ian Rankin has a slew of detective books based in Scotland, & Jo Nesbo’s books are based in Norway. They’re pretty cool.
Any of the Aurelio Zen mysteries by the late Michael Dibdin. They are all set in Italian and Sicilian cities. I’m not a fan of “series” nor mysteries but I love these stories !
