Nope! Just don’t pull it out during spending time together! Save it for your evenings when you’re laying in bed and the trip there and back.

After our fourth family vacation, my exMIL declared I was only allowed to bring one book. I bought a Kindle before we left….

I love my in-laws but I always take a book. I don’t always read it, but I do have it with me. My mother in law now asks to see what I brought and it has started a few good conversations. Just have it with you in a bag and use your best judgement as to whether it’s appropriate to take it out or not.

Get a small Bluetooth earbud for one ear and cover it with your hair, and listen to an audio book. You can tell if they actually say something to you with the other ear and respond appropriately ? None will be the wiser.

My partner always calls me Hermione because everywhere we go I pack my current read in my handbag. I say to him “you call me like it’s a bad thing, you’re a muggle, you don’t understand”

You take it just in case! Nobody needs to know. Whenever I have to deal with family reunions, I resist for an hour or two, then take a break, find a quiet spot and read. My family usually know where I went and just let me be.
