Forwards, Afterthoughts, Prefaces, Acknowledgements… Do you read them? I skip them a lot unless I really enjoy the book.

Skip the acknowledgments

I read it all! Especially prefaces and/or prologues & afterthoughts and/or epilogues – the story is not complete without them! I always read the acknowledgements as well, but usually on the lookout for other authors names to see who works together & helps each other!

I also really like summaries of previous books, character lists, appendices with meanings of words/definitions/characters. I read mainly fantasy though, so these things come in quite handy, especially in worldbuilding where lots of words are made up. I also like it when they put pronunciation guides for made up words. Oh, and maps! Love studying maps & often go back and look at them again while reading (although this is impossible with kindle books)!

@Lisa-Marie I cheat and go to the cover and thumb until I get to the map. Then I hit the back button to go back to my page.

Ah, good plan! It always annoys me when I can’t look at the map as I’m reading when it’s an ebook – I shall try that in future! Thank you!

If you have Kindle you can bookmark pages for easy flipping. Sometimes I screenshot and then print ???

I had a really ancient kindle, that didn’t do any of the cool stuff, but I recently upgraded & I’m still getting used to it (touch screen instead of silly little buttons – woo hoo!) I shall have to learn how to do the bookmarking thing!

I skip unless it’s a classic or something where the forward is relevant.
I really like to just read the book and not know a lot about the author. I skip acknowledgments usually.

I read forwards first if they don’t spoil anything. If they are more than 3-5 pages, I do skip them and will likely come back to it after I finish the book. I read the afterwards, but I skim the thank you. I don’t usually know those people ?

I always get mad when I find a glossary at the end of my book that I wasn’t aware of while reading. I hate that!
