I’m working through NPR’s 100 Greatest Sci-fi/Fantasy novels, and this one made the list. Now I want to read or listen to Jane Eyre.

I love how Hades wound up in The Raven, lol.

It really does help if you’ve read the books he’s referencing. I don’t know how the humor would work otherwise.

If you like that, I recommend John Dies at the End by David Wong. It’s like reading a funny episode of the X-Files. I absolutely love it.

For Jane Eyre fans: if you want to know how the mad wife in the attic came to be there, read The Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. I loved it and made it a point to visit Jean Rhys’s home when we visited the Commonwealth of Dominca (gorgeous, still unspoiled Caribbean island).

I plan to read both Jane Eyre and Richard III because of this story, even though I know how Jane Eyre ends.

@Eric jasper played with storylines… makes a person smile to see when the humor is a reference to an old classic.

Love Jasper Fforde’s books! Both the Thursday Next series and Nursery Rhymes series are great … great humor and both are series where you just have to let your mind go free to take it all in. I end each book wondering how in the world he has come up these very inventive plots.

I wish he would write more nursery crime series and more of the shades of grey. He only wrote one of those and it was really good!

I enjoyed it but got bored with sequel and stopped inmiddle . Loved the concept though and the idea of a brief visit to the past. I would so take a vacation in 1970.
