It was groundbreaking when it was written. That was a long time ago and there has been so much hype about it lately that it is bound to fall short of expectations.

What?!

Maybe I love it because I first read it many years ago. But when I reread it recently I think I loved it even more. Agree that the series is amazing.

I did not understand all the hype around the book. I just binge the show in less than a week and I liked it a lot more than the book but it’s pretty grim and not for everyone for sure

It’s not meant to entertain. It’s a dystopian tale, an important one.

It made an “Atwood” fan out of me. It’s still in my top 5 of her books.

It’s an excellent book if you delve into the deeper meaning.

People complain they don’t like the jumping around… but that’s the point. It’s June’s mind and we all know minds jump around. The point is that they may control HER but will never be able to control her mind.

Monumentally important book. I’ve read it several times and teach it in my high school class.

That’s great..that you teach it-that you are ALLOWED to teach it.

@Carol in all the years the district has taught it, there’s only been one parent who complained. And it was because their child didn’t want to read and used the sex scenes as his reason for it. But beyond that, it works.

The ending left me with so many questions! But a fascinating tale none the less.
