I love all of Charles de Lint’s Newford series. The first one I read was ‘Forests of the Heart’, but ‘Onion Girl’ (and ‘Widdershins’, which involves the same main character) is my favorite.

Aimee Bender, Kelly Link, and Karen Russell are all good, especially if you like short stories (Bender and Russell both have at least one novel as well), and if you also like things that might stray to the darker side of weird. Anne-Marie McLemore is lovely if you don’t mind YA. Francesca Lia Block as well. Helen Oyeyemi is great.

I didn’t realize Oscar Wao was magical realism. I added it to my DNF pile because I could NOT get myself to finish it

I enjoy Carrie Hope Fletcher’s books! I make them my bath reads so I have something to read in the bath when I only have library books.
