Mariel Uppenborn it made me go out in my yard and pretend I was Native American and living in the woods and stuff. I remember making Campbell’s vegetable beef soup and pretending I made it from bear meat. Little kid me got really into that book lol

@Sarah wow that’s more involved than I was gotta say lol. I think I did lots of late night imagining with it though, making up different endings etc.

I didn’t NOT like it.
It just made me laugh in some spots and not my favorite, ha ha.
My dad, also native, LOVES the movie.

Favorite series was Nancy Drew mysteries; Christy by Catherine Marshall sparked a desire in me to learn about my Appalachian heritage and all things health-related; Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm was a gift from a favorite teacher who encouraged me to read a lot; Go Ask Alice and Flowers for Algernon were high school mandatory and made me aware of social issues.
