As You Wish by Cary Elwes. I can’t recommend the audio version of this book enough. It’s so good. Well if you have seen and like the movie The Princess Bride.
@Jes oh my goshhhh you have to listen to it stat! The audio is read by a bunch of the actors, directors, and the author of the book The Princess Bride. It’s soooo good.
Anything Neil Gaiman has written, Born a Crime, I am Malala, A Man Called Ove, David Sedaris books, The Help, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, The Night Circus, Harry Potter Series, Notorious RBG, Yes Please, In Cold Blood, Rebecca, Flavia de Luce Mysteries, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, and for guilty pleasure Rhys Bowen books…
Open by Andre Agassi. I don’t even like sports. I don’t even know how tennis works. But it was awesome! I couldn’t stop listening. So glad my dad told me to give it a try!
@Jes I usually hate when female narrators do the male parts, but she is phenomenal! I really felt like I was there with Claire and Jamie! (not sure if I spelled those correctly)
Eleanor Oliphant, A River of Stars, Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows, I Feel Bad About My Neck ( by Nora Ephron, very funny) , Born A Crime, Becoming, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn…
I’m seriously loving “The Book of Speculation”, read by Ari Fliakos. His characters each come alive with his various accents and intonations. I’d listen to him read me the back of a cereal box his voice is that amazing! I will look for other books read by him now.
@Jana oooooh get the Ari Fliakos version! He has impressive vocal range. He narrates men and women so well, and so differently. Let me know what you think!
This isn’t for everyone but I’m listening to The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy. I have read it a couple times but to hear the words helps you appreciate his way with words. Some say he is too wordy but I adore his prose. It brings everything alive.
Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick World War Z by Max Brooks The Shining by Stephen King Ready Player One by Ernest Cline The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough
Harry Potter Series with Jim Dale (who won awards for his narrations), A Christmas Carole with Jim Dale, The Night Circus, Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, Crazy Rich Asians (currently listening to), Where’d You Go Bernadette, A Man Called Ove, Big Little Lies, The Rosie Project, just to name a few! ?
Harry Potter series. Jim Dale is amazing. The Chronicles of the One series (first two books are out) by Nora Roberts — I cant recall the narrator’s name but she’s right up there with Jim Dale, I think.
As You Wish by Cary Elwes. If you are a Princess Bride fan, listen to this. It’s narrated by Cary, with cameos from the cast, Rob Reiner (the director), and William Goldman, the author of the book. PURE AUDITORY GOLD. After listening, you will want to go back and watch the movie again with your newfound knowledge.
The first time we watched it with my son, he was all “I’m not watching a stupid princess movie.” He can now recite parts by heart. We will have to check this one out!
So many to list…and at present I’m listening to Becoming read by Michelle Obama. ABSOLUTELY a must listen. I am even more appreciative of the incredible human beings Michelle & Barack are. First to have taken on the challenge of being POTUS & FLOTUS. Second for their bravery to be who they are. I cannot find enough adjectives and am reduced to just saying ‘WOW’ over and over as I listen to her share her experiences from childhood to present. As far as I can tell, she covers ALL the angles of life with humbleness, honesty, grace & love. ❤️
