All the Dystopian fic I’ve read has a sci-fi or at least future setting. It’d be interesting to read something in a medieval setting, or even older. I think we forget that many past eras were pretty awful to start.

@Jay, have you read Rae Carson? Her first trilogy is set in what might compare to medieval times. Her second series is set around the California Gold Rush. Both are so well-written! But I cannot remember titles. Sigh

I’ve read all of those, most because I thought I should or under duress (school). I don’t really like the genres. Brave New World and We by Zamyiatin are my favorites.

I love the books by Keri Arthur. She has a great disoptian series that has three books starting the city of light.

Excellent if done correctly.
Nightfall is my favorite novel of all times.
It also has the interesting aspect that it doesn’t take place on earth.
