It depends upon length and how it starts out. If it’s too long, I find it irritating and will either skim or skip. If length is reasonable and really is integral to the story, I’ll stick with it.

I skip sex scenes. I don’t care how talented a writer is, you cannot make that shit sound sexy.

Lisa Thornton I skip sex scenes too! They add nothing to the story. Did they have sex? Fine. Do I need to know every detail and who touched who where? No just get back to the story thanks ?

Lisa

@Dhyani Exactly. I don’t want to know if he’s “thrusting rhythmically” ?

I skip sex scenes too. Different I suppose if you’re reading something along the lines of 50 shades. Which I havent read so I am only supposing here. But books not on that type subject then there’s just no need .Same with TV & Films. As for dreams are they part of the plot or just an excuse as in Bobby Ewing ? Sometimes they have their places but it needs to be well written & intergral part of the plot. x

I skip dream sequences as a general rule. I also skip prologues – especially when they are dream sequences… B|

I read them but have trouble remembering them afterward.

It depends on how much the dream sequence pushes the plot forward. And if the dream gives clues to solving the crime. Not talking about flashbacks or going backward here, I think. OP what do you mean by dream sequence?

KeithQuestion author

@Ronnie just a general dream. Most to me do not make sense

Ronnie

@Keith um, ok, then the ones you’ve read haven’t added to the plot

No not imo

Yeah I never read dream sequences. I also don’t bother with prologues, epilogues, flashbacks, dialogue, chapters 3, 8, 19, 23 and 50 and the word ‘the’. Seriously, people?
