You’re definitely going to need to read the trilogy and duology before king of scars

I read the trilogy before SoC but was told that you can go straight to SoC without reading the trilogy first, I would however say you shouldn’t read King of Scars until you’ve read the Shadow and Bone series and SoC

@Lacy that’s what I heard

@Lacy not really, Crooked Kingdom does mention a few characters from the trilogy but nothing is really said about what happens. Probably better to read the Tril first though

@Lacy I wouldn’t say it’s spoilery because any characters from the trilogy are unknown to you. I read SOC AND Crooked Kingdom first, then the trilogy. I wouldn’t read King of Scars without having read both, though.

I read Six of Crows then the trilogy and now reading Crooked Kingdoms. Crooked Kingdom does kinda have spoilers in it. Definitely read King of Scars last.

I’ve only read SOC and don’t think there was any issues understanding the world. A lot of people do recommend reading the trilogy just because it explains the world in greater detail

You can read the Six of Crows duology before the Shadow & Bone trilogy and be ok. I personally wouldn’t recommend it, but I know others who did this and were totally fine. You do you!

Buttttt, you will need to read both the trilogy and duology before King of Scars.

You actually have to read the grisha trilogy prior to KOS

If you can read them in publication order.

I’d read the trilogy first mostly cause I think the SoC duology is a lot better, you can see that she really grows as a writer between the trilogy & that. I read them in pub order but I’ve seen quite a few people be disappointed in the trilogy reading it after SoC. There would be a lot of big spoilers in KOS if you read it before finishing all the others.

I disliked the grisha trilogy. Quite halfway through book 2, just didnt care enough about it to keep reading. Read & enjoyed the Six of Crows duology tho.

Skip grisha trilogy and move on to six of crows. She needed to write those first three books to really grow as a writer, but there’s nothing in them you need to know to enjoy the Six of Crows duology
