No I don’t think it does. I’m a introvert. Reading is my escape. But I get anxiety about being in groups of people. When in large groups of people. I need to decompress. Need alone time.
It doesn’t make you one. it’s often just a coincidence or correlation. Some of the people I know who got into medical school (medical school selects for outgoing, more extroverted people) are very talkative and social yet they have read plenty of books
No. Everyone is a reader, even though he’s not aware of being one for his reading textbooks or pamphlets only. But not anyone is a introvert or antisocial.
No, absolutely not. A lot of introverts, like myself, do read because it’s a mostly solitary and quiet activity and that’s what we thrive on. But the act of reading itself does not make someone anti-social. People of many different personality types enjoy reading.
No it’s otherwise. Personality is genetic. If you’re an introvert you’re born with it 🙂 (including myself?) so I don’t think reading or not reading can change your personality. I see it more like a hobby of introverts.
No,I’m just an introvert who happens to love reading. But I also like to do other solitary activities such a counted cross-stitch, baking, jigsaw puzzles, listening to music. I get enough social activity at my job and don’t need people around 24/7.
No. introversion and extroversion are biologically hardwired in the brain and determines how a person responds to stimuli. These are not personality traits one “picks up.” However, yes, readers are more likely be demographically introverts. Introverts gravitates towards solo activities more than extroverts (because extroverts charge their brain battery by social interaction whereas introverts recharge through quiet alone time away from excessive stimulation.) A really great book to read about this is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t stop Talking by Susan Cain
No… I am usually an introvert/anti social even without reading ?? But seriously no, I have found great friends online through the love of reading & books!
No, I like spending time by myself but I am also a very sociable person. I don’t believe that human beings needs to spend every waking hour with other human beings, it’s important to have time to yourself to relax and recharge your batteries. I choose to spend my relaxation time reading, others may play computer games, exercise or watch tv etc. Humans are complex and sometimes we just need to be alone, it’s not a negative thing.
I’m anything but antisocial, I’m usually the person getting everyone else talking 😛 I also know plenty of people who don’t really read and have trouble socialising in general, stuff like that comes down to you, not whether you are a reader or not, in my opinion of course.
Reading can’t make you an introvert, that’s an inborn trait, but a lot of introverts like to read as it suits their need for some alone time and a break from a majority extrovert world.
I’m an Introvert at heart and have always been a “reader” so the two go hand-in-hand for me. I can be “sociable” if I have to be, but rather not as it absolutely drains me…
I’m not “a reader”. Reading is a part of my life but has nothing to do with my social life. Does doing the housework make me antisocial? – As much as it takes up some time that I could possibly use to meet friends. Same with reading – I don’t show it up, just read books when I feel like it, I absolutely can’t see any relation with my social life.
Not really. I mean if I’m in the middle of a really good heart of a book I’ll get a little antisocial, but I don’t get to the point where I ignore everyone just for the sole purpose of reading a book.
No way, absolutely not. There is nothing better than a good book. Books are the best things in the world, and I wouldn’t want to live in a world without them!
No I don’t think it does. I’m a introvert. Reading is my escape. But I get anxiety about being in groups of people. When in large groups of people. I need to decompress. Need alone time.
Yeah well reading a lot of books means a lot of alone time!
Yes it does. When I’ve got to much my mind, it’s hard to read.
No but it’s a useful tool if you are one. Helps you to be alone and to avoid small talk and conversation
Yeah but people say your “antisocial”
Is being antisocial so bad?
i don’t know but maybe you miss out on a lot. I’m looking for a man and I’m not gonna find him cooped up in my room reading a book (unfortunately!☹️).
@Melanie Maybe here??
It’s not my case cause I’m naturally an introvert but I think yes because if you love reading you need more time alone
Yeah I’m more of an introvert than extrovert. Just wondering if it’s possible to be an extrovert and also love reading books!
It’s very possible. I know plenty of people that are outgoing, love interacting and talking but they also spend some time reading. You can do both
I read a lot and I am not what you would call an introvert by any stretch of the imagination. Depends on you
It doesn’t make you one. it’s often just a coincidence or correlation. Some of the people I know who got into medical school (medical school selects for outgoing, more extroverted people) are very talkative and social yet they have read plenty of books
Nope. Correlation, not causation.
Nope
With non readers yes, other readers no.
No. People read for different reasons.
Nope! Either you are or you aren’t. Reading has nothing to do with it
No.
No. I’m an introvert because I don’t usually like people lol.
Same
Makes me happy… The End
I don’t think i am… Unless I’m actually reading… Then yeah haha!
No. Everyone is a reader, even though he’s not aware of being one for his reading textbooks or pamphlets only. But not anyone is a introvert or antisocial.

Being a reader only makes you gain information. Your personal proclivities are your own.
No, not necessarily.
I’m autistic so I’m naturally inclined towards introverted anti socialness
No it’s otherwise. Personality is genetic. If you’re an introvert you’re born with it 🙂 (including myself?) so I don’t think reading or not reading can change your personality. I see it more like a hobby of introverts.
Exactly.
No,I’m just an introvert who happens to love reading. But I also like to do other solitary activities such a counted cross-stitch, baking, jigsaw puzzles, listening to music. I get enough social activity at my job and don’t need people around 24/7.
I am an introvert. But I know plenty of readers who aren’t. I don’t think the two are connected.
No. introversion and extroversion are biologically hardwired in the brain and determines how a person responds to stimuli. It makes me literate and informed. ????
No… I am usually an introvert/anti social even without reading ??
But seriously no, I have found great friends online through the love of reading & books!
I would say I’m an extroverted introvert, or would that be a introverted extrovert..never mind.
I’ve read that described as an ambivert. That’s me, too.
No, I like spending time by myself but I am also a very sociable person. No
Heck, no. Although, I prefer to be left alone when I’m reading.
I’ve always been an introvert but reading makes it more extreme. I can tune out everything around me when I’m reading.
I’m not antisocial but I hate ‘small talk’.
Neither. It makes you educated. There’s plenty of extroverted social people who read voraciously.
I’m anything but antisocial, I’m usually the person getting everyone else talking 😛 I also know plenty of people who don’t really read and have trouble socialising in general, stuff like that comes down to you, not whether you are a reader or not, in my opinion of course.

Yes
Nope. I’m an introverted extrovert. I like my alone time but can be very social. I’m comfortable in groups and alone.
No not at all
I don’t know. I love books people not so much! Lol!
I’m an Introvert at heart and have always been a “reader” so the two go hand-in-hand for me. I can be “sociable” if I have to be, but rather not as it absolutely drains me…
Me too.
Not necessarily. I consider myself to be an extrovert, and I am very social, and I’ve always read a lot.
Leavemealonecan’tyouseei’mreading
Not really, but books are relaxing. People are not 😉
No
No. It means you love a form of entertainment that’s been around for centuries. Don’t let others put labels on you.
No
Not necessarily. Although I consider myself an introvert, I know plenty of people who are socially outgoing that also love to read.
No. You can be an avid reader (like me) and still be incredibly social.
No
No but it sure helps if you are.
You’re bothering me. ?
does in my case lol
Both
No, but I happen to be an introvert and kind of antisocial anyway. I have always preferred books to people- they don’t let you down
Iv always been an introvert
No
Neither. Makes us more intelligent as we know more BIG words 🙂
I’m not “a reader”. Reading is a part of my life but has nothing to do with my social life. I’m a reader, and an introvert but just being a reader doesn’t make someone an introvert. There’s more to it than just reading ☺
No
Absolutely not!!!! It should be the opposite
No, educated! ?
no
I love reading, love my own company too. I am an introvert and proud of it! Antisocial, no, but a tad unsocial!
I couldn’t say it better myself!
No, but I am an introvert. Which came first the reader or the introvert?
Makes you interesting and intelligent
Nope. I’m an extrovert but I value my time reading!
I am both an introvert and antisocial. Reading is one way to get away from people.
“Antisocial” and “Unsocial” are not the same.
introvert
Not really. I mean if I’m in the middle of a really good heart of a book I’ll get a little antisocial, but I don’t get to the point where I ignore everyone just for the sole purpose of reading a book.
It makes you too well informed to tolerate the ignorance around you. Not quite the same thing, but it looks like it to idiots.
No
No
Not necessarily…?
I don’t know if it ‘makes’ one an introvert/antisocial or if obsessive reading is a characteristic of an introvert/antisocial.
I’d say it’s the latter
No way, absolutely not. There is nothing better than a good book. Books are the best things in the world, and I wouldn’t want to live in a world without them!
Both, but I kind of always have been. …just books make it worse
Nope it just makes you a reader!
Introvert
No
nope… I already was when I started reading a lot ^^
No
Both
No, but a lot of readers are
Does it matter?
I’m an introvert, that’s why I prefer reading to socializing.
I agree with Samantha.
I am always one introvert?
