I watch a lot of them but not loyally. The only one I am loyal to is homicide hunter. I love me some Joe Kenda. SVU, Snapped, Nightmare Next Door. Mostly I just watch crime documentaries like Making A Murder. The Keepers, The Staircase

Haven’t watched the keepers yet but some of the feature length Netflix documentaries have been terrific. The fear of 13 for example.

I’ve not been a massive fan of the latest series – think it went downhill after Reid went into prison (then again, Reid is my favourite)

Unfortunately I have been. It hasn’t changed my outlook on them or even reading crime books. True crime I can watch, but prefer to watch the fantasy made up stuff.

I watch a lot (too much when I just zonk out in front of TV) and I’ve had a recurring suspicion that writers and producers are going for extreme effect instead of subtle plotting. It’s a long time since Deliverance gave us the first shock of sexual violence against men (a visual stalwart against women of course) but now there’s a creeping (and creepy) voyeurism or prurience that detracts from the genre – – as in CARDINAL for instance – – the main leads work well but in no time you’re plunged back into the horror basement with a nasty take on Brady-Hindley. I know the menacing of secure order is a key stone to the thriller/chiller but look how much better it works with nuance and plot – – like in Polanski’s Chinatown.

Kerry

I’m watching this at the moment… I find it rather disturbing!! ?

0
Simon

right K – – check out Deliverance if you’ve never seen it (Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds) and it (explosively) does for men what is horribly normal for women – – and now there’s stuff like Cardinal and the question for me is what does it add to the drama and truth of the art – – and what drives the choices in the first place beyond the simple case of sensationalism and follow-the-pack. The Danish noir gave us so much more in the relationships, much less in-you-face – –

Kate I was going to post this last night 😀 xxx I like quite a few crime programs. I was watching the First 48 last night. True crime scenes & police investigating them, it is really sad/scary and brutal because it is so real. On a lighter note I love Judge Judy 😛 and most of the crime programes CSI, Criminal Minds etc

I thought the latest series of Criminal minds was rather boring which is a shame as I used to love it. I also love the Uk’s Line of Duty which has just finished. I did watch a series on Netflix called crime scene cleaners set in London where 2 cleaners accidentally get caught up in criminal activity and end up having to clean crime scenes for a local gangster. That was really good and I believe a 2nd series has been commissioned.

The original NCIS is my favourite, I watch repeats on Foxtel. sometimes we can watch the “new” series, the one without Tony, but reception of free t o air is poor. I’ve only just cottoned on that the Tony replacement was Fez, from That 70s Show!

Currently watching Cardinal on BBC 4. Set in snowy part of Canada. Grim autopsy moments and excellent intrigue into his, Cardinal’s, past and the young detective assigned to work with him facing doubts from Cardinal as to her abilities. There is a nice twist in all that. First few episodes should still be up on IPlayer. Two episodes back to back on a Saturday. https://youtu.be/IqaE2Blr00I
