Does anyone plan out their reading? Such as, “I need to read 84 pages per day to finish this book in 3 days time”

Sometimes.
Yes, I try to read 10 chapters a day and a book every 3 days max. I have planned an entire reading list by month through dec. I’m trying to be more organized to meet my yearly goal this year.
I had enough of such planning when I was in college. . .a long time ago! I don’t like the pressure of reading deadlines, even when they are my own. 🙂
No, can’t imagine reading like that I think it would feel like a chore to me. Sometimes I read I book in 2 days and sometimes it takes a week – I just read completely for pleasure & when I’m in the mood.
Only when I’m not enjoying the book as much as I thought I would. I rarely quit a book so makes it easier and I get more motivated to get through it. Never books I’m enjoying though.
NEVER….that makes reading a chore instead of a pleasure
No way. I just read until I can’t anymore and sleep and read again.
No.
Only in nursing school??
Only if I am studying
Yup I’m 34 and I hope to read 25,000 books by the time I’m 66. That’s 2 books per day
I think it but never achieve it
Nope. Because it’s a lie. If I’m really into the book I’m not putting it down. No matter what limit I put on myself lol
Yes. I’m reading a really great book right now but life is getting in the way. And i didn’t read for 3 days because one thing after another. A lot of craziness right now and sometimes that can be overwhelming and I just don’t take the time to read. So I told myself I must read 100 pages a day so I can allow myself the space to 1)escape for awhile each day and 2) finish this book that is actually really really good.
Life is tough sometimes. Books really do help.
Sometimes
That’s me!
Yes sometimes and even then it doesn’t work lol
No
I read to relax so putting a must read these number of pages in place takes away the pleasure for me.
Yes,,,I do 100 a day
Only if I dislike a book because once I start I can’t not know what will happen.
All the time. The closer to the ending the , the more the planning.
I’ve started doing that. Otherwise I don’t feel like I’m making progress. Little goals.
No me neither reading is supposed to be a pleasure not a chore ! ??
Yep i set myself at 50 pages a day
yes sometimes I do plan it like this but I never follow
No. Reading has to remain a pleasure, not a requirement.
Not really but I don’t like leaving a book with a few pages. I try to read the last hundred pages in one sitting if I can, and certainly by lights out.
No, the purpose of reading to me is to unwind , relax, in the process learn, it is the quality and not quantity
So unless we are due to meet with out Book club and im and n the mood to join i do rush few chapters othetwise never
exactly I read to relax
Oh yes, might rush for book club but that’s it!
Only on a book club book when it’s getting close to the meeting.
LIke others, I’d only do this if Book Club were looming
It since university
Nope what’s the point, sometimes life takes over, too rigid for me a book should be savoured, relished. Don’t put pressure on yourself reading should be a pleasant experience
Not since I had to study! Reading should be pleasurable, not with deadlines, there are enough deadlines in life.
No I hate planning at the best of times! I generally read at bedtime (so who know when I’ll call asleep!) Or occassionally after work and at weekends (who knows when someone will want me, or I simply need to get off my butt and DO something… Like housework ?) So planning doesn’t work for me, I just relax and go with the flow (when it comes to reading anyway! Maybe not a general rule i adhere to in life unfortunately!)
i try but never happens, I do plan to finish my current book today which is doable
I usually read as much as I can before I fall asleep. Sometimes I just can’t put the book down ?
Oh god no! Too much pressure!
Yes. Cos i run a book group at work so always conscious of time meeting monthly ?
Good heavens no. Why would I put pressure on myself to do that! Life has enough stress and deadlines.
Yes, sometimes, but I don’t usually stick to it.
No but while reading I try to finish at least one chapter per sitting
I feel like it becomes a chore then….so no. Why turn a hobby/pleasure into work?
Huh??? Definitely not something I would do! If book is gripping, I read until am too tired to go on
Ive tried it. But there are just times i cant finish where i marked where i want to stop for the day because of how busy i am with school or i get distracted. ?
I’m laughing because my book club knows I divide the amount of pages in a book by days allocated to read it!! I’m usually ahead but I do this every month!!
Never.
Nope
No
I never do! I love to read and I don’t want to turn it into work!
No. Reading is a joy not a chore.
Never. That would make it seem like a chore.
Only if I have deadline: road trip, library and someone has requested it so I can’t renew, book club meeting, my reading pile is long, like six books I need to finish some ASAP to keep up.
Same here
No
I try to but it doesn’t always work lol
Yes
Nope. Just read what I can before I fall asleep or have to go out to get the bus to go out for the day.
Noooooo! That would sap the fun out of it for me!
Depends on why I’m reading. If I have an assignment for a Bible Study or need to read a book I’m not really fond of for a book Club, I’ll see how many pages per day I need to get through, and mark them off with book marks. Otherwise I read my recreational books at their pace, which is usually 2-3 books a week.
Absolutely not – never! Where’s the fun in that?
No, I just make as much time as possible – usually before bed or after dinner for a bit too. Heck I’ll read in line at the grocery store!
Nope, I just read when I can ?
Reading isn’t a chore, it’s a pure pleasure, so absolutely no Planning!
I agree Adele – i read for pure relaxation & enjoyment
No. I would hate that.
I am a slow reader. Mix that with home life and that equals never getting any books read. I am trying to find a system that works for me, simply because I *do* love to read and it does relax me, but I sometimes have to schedule it in and set goals or else it just doesn’t happen. I get so discouraged when I go to the library, pick up 3-4 books and then have to return several of those books, if not all, unread. Especially when I was soooo excited to read them to start with.
I dont know. Maybe I am going about it in the wrong way.
I’m also a slow reader, I’m on Moby Dick since December. When your kids get bigger you’ll have more time, just keep trying!
I have never done that before….BUT…. I did catch myself yesterday looking at page 26 and wondering how many I had to read to finish The Woman in Cabin 10 by the 10th of Feb when our book club meeting is. No matter how hard I try I just can not get into that book!! 🙁
Nope!
No, I consider reading a pleasure not a chore.
I did for a bit and it took the pleasure out of reading. It didn’t work for me.
Yep..like read ten pages before falling asleep.
I go by chapters ecample i need to read to chapter 6 by this day
I do that with my school text books hahah. Gotta get the chapter done in 4 days? Better read 60 pags a night!
yup, it’s usually because i’m not really enjoying the book and I have to read it for a specific purpose where there is a deadline.
Nope. Some days I might read 80 pages and others only one or two pages then I might not touch it again for a week.
I do it by month! My goal is 100 books so I need to read at least 9 books a month to reach that goal, which is 2/3 books a week lol
Never! I read for pleasure when and how I can…?… which is almost …always!
My schedule is pretty booked with my job and my daughters all star cheer, so I can’t hold myself accountable for anything specific. I just read every free second I have! Lol
Not since college when I had to read. Now I just read as much as I can according to how I feel. Sometimes when I get near the end of a book and anxious to move on to a new book I may push myself a bit more.
I do if I have one due at the library or if reading one for book club that I don’t find very interesting
Nope, just read
Yes
No but I like to finish the chapter before I put the book down.
I try to do that but don’t always succeed. I’m lucky if I finish the page sometimes.
@Lynda I understand that!
Only books for school.
No
Sometimes.
No
Doesn’t that take the fun out of reading?
Yes!
Yes
No
NO….no 2 days are the same & wouldn’t want to put pressure on myself to read a certain number of pages. Reading should be for the pleasure.
I check the number of pages, divide them by the number of days I want to read it in. Sad I know but it’s just my thing
I then put paper clips in the divided pages so I know how much I need to read in one night
I forgot to say that is because I am in a book club.
I can’t plan it. Too much life happening. I wish I was a faster reader but I am a classic subvocal reader. I’ve tried to change but not been successful. I hear the inflections in my head. Maybe that’s a theater background? So I read when I feel like it. Sometimes pushing through to get something done. I seldom abandon.
I’ve never heard that before, subvocal. I am also a slow reader who does that. I enjoy it so much, I’m not through one book yet this year
i used to feel guilty about that internal speech. Anyone who teaches speed reading would train you to get beyond that. But there is a lot of discussion about long term comprehension and memory of content. I think it’s all just individual and what works for you. I was jealous of people who could knock out a lot of books. Now I don’t care and don’t compare!! Happy reading!
New motto!!!!! I don’t care, and don’t compare. Brilliant!
I wish!
I do it if i’m going away and don’t want to take an unfinished book with me.
If the book is worth reading you never want to finish it 🙂
No, i plan my books around my book clubs I run and have joined.
Yes!!!!! I do this with every single book lol. My husband thinks I’m sick in the head. ?
Do you really? And I just wing it. ??
I so do lol. Most books I want to only give myself 3 days to read so I break it up that way. If a book is not really doing it for me though it may take longer.
No, I just say I’ll read one chapter and then 5 hours later its finished and I’m starting a new book
No, that never occurred to me. I read fast and I read a lot, never even look at number of pages. Interesting how your brain works.
I start a new book every Monday. Then read my big stack of magazines and newspapers.
It’s never occurred to me to set a goal of numbers of books to read per year. I just enjoy the process…. and if it takes me a long time, I savor it.
