I feel like this is the only author and trilogy I ever recommend but you might try the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. They really are so good. And the author is a history professor so the details are incredible.

Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden novels, and Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, are not exclusively vampiric but there are blood suckers aplenty in their worlds. I recommend both.

I second Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress, aka Cat and Bones. Fantastic series. Lynsay Sands’ Argeneau Vampires is more on the chick litty side and some of them you just feel like been there done that, but I still enjoy them. I loved the early Anita Blake books by Laurell K. Hamilton but then they devolved into basically a bunch of weird sex scenes with a little bit of story in between.

Steph

I agree wholeheartedly with you about the Anita Blake series–such great books….until they devolved, as you say.

True blood
The southern vampire mysteries
Sookie stackhouse
Basically all about the same characters but always different endings

And im not sure about sookie stackhouse
Ik its still about the same characters but idk if its the same as true blood or svm

Black Dagger Brotherhood series, Dark series, Guild Hunter series (gets more into vampires as you progress), and Immortals After Dark are all fantastic- yeah, there’s plenty of sex in those, though it’s not the center of the stories. Forewarning, the Brotherhood series is kind of dark (in my humble opinion, some characters are almost too human in a negative way, similar to A. C. Clarke’s all-too-true style).
Another series that blew my mind was the Psy-Changeling series… supernatural, but not vampires.

Oh, and thank you all 🙂 🙂 🙂 Just added a ton of books to my reading list!

I’m a big believer in books I can touch and treasure- in fact have over two thousand myself which I force myself to donate one for each I buy now :'(

However… There’s a few sites online that offer free reading of more than a few of the works listed above- once they’re in a library, they’re on the sites, pretty much, which is the only reason I approve (well, that and it’s suckered me in to buying a few to keep lol)… Try searching ‘freevampires’ and your author 🙂
