@January her conception was brought about by a master raping her grandmother as a slave and her life deals very closely with the fall out from that seminal moment – I thought perhaps Shannon Danielle would enjoy it. It’s an amazing story.

The Book of Negroes is a wonderful epic set during The Slave Trade in the early 19th Century.
The Invisible Bridge and Schindler’s Ark are both fantastic books about Nazi slave labour.

Maybe check to make sure it’s about slavery before recommending? I could see it being offensive when books about black people in 1930s or 1960s that deal with themes of discrimination are being spoken about as books about “slavery”. For instance, The Help and The Colour Purple are not about slavery. I liked Island Beneath the Sea (Isabel Allende), The Known World and The Book of Negroes (different title in US I think).
