It can be done, I’ve gotten codes, but I don’t know exactly. I know to purchase gifts on Amazon, you have to be on the desktop version. Maybe go to the audio page on the desktop and see if it gives you the option. It’s usually in small print under the buy box.
You used to be able to do it through Audible, but it seems that they’ve turned that feature off. Not sure about doing it on Amazon without an Audible account? I can’t say I’ve ever tried it.
I am embarrassed to say they have changed the game on me! I have sent them a complaint about it. Stupidest thing I have come across lately. It seems the all mighty dollar would once again outsmart companies on how to make a dollar faster and easier.
I think since Amazon owns Audible, they are trying to get everyone to get an Audible account. My mom used to gift my sister and I Aubible books and several months ago they took that option away. Even though I have an Audible account, she still can’t buy me audible books, and that’s what amazon uses. Stinks. Buying discs is still an option of course, but those usually cost more. If you know the person can play MP3 discs, check out Audiobook Stand. I’ve found some good deals on there.
As I think about it, I have used this for Kindle books. Go to Amazon, Managing Devices and Contets, and you will find yours. You could also ask Audible, I am sure they have customer support.

Thanks, @Kayleigh! I’m trying to be prepared for Christmas shopping.

I’m trying to do exactly that. Without an Audible account.
It’s still available on http://audible.com/
I just tried to do that and the option to give as a gift goes away when I chose audiobook as opposed to Kindle or Paperback.
Hmmmmm
I didn’t know if it would. I’ve definitely gotten codes before. I’ll research audible and all that later!
I know I’ve gifted Kindle books. Can’t imagine why audio is different.
Well poo 🙁
If worse comes to worse I’ll just order it under his account and use my credit card as payment.
Yes! I do it often!
@Wynter Lisa can teach us!
Thank you Lisa!!!
I will have to do it after work and make sure. I give books at Christmas.
You can on Kobo

Apparently you can only gift a subscription, not book credits. 🙁

Well crap
I’m trying to do it without audible.
From what I’m seeing, there is no option to do so.
Ok thanks

This is what I’m seeing. It used to be an option, but no longer.
That’s a bummer!
Someone just recently told me you could do it on Barnes & http://noble.com/
An I tunes card will allow them to purchase an audiobook of their choice and listen through their phone.
You can do it on Kindle if you know the person’s Kindle email, which is not the person’s email.
I do know his kindle email!

audible also has this option
