I was just looking at that. People seemed to like it in the reviews but categorized it depressing so I am not sure if I’m going to read it or not. Do you like it?

I read it fairly recently and I think it’s worth reading. I do think that you need to keep in mind that it is a semi autobiographical novel written by a poet who suffered from depression. The language is beautiful but the story is sad. If you want a ‘nice’ book don’t read this, but if you want something to make you think then read The Bell Jar.

I read it a month or two ago and thought it was incredibly over rated. It led nowhere, no particular climax etc just depressing details of the character’s battle with depression and left me wondering why I bothered.

I owned it forever, and finally read it about a year ago. I’m glad I did- it may have been a bit more relevant when it was written- but still enjoyed reading it and glad I did.

Yes, we just read it recently in my book club. It was depressing and I would not read it again. Also can’t recommend it. Yes, it’s a classic but also boring.
