Is it worth it to upgrade from the paper white?

Kerstin

It’s definitely worth to upgrade from paperwhite to voyage. The lighting and script are so much better. And the lighting is automatically if you want to.

1
JessickaQuestion author

@Kerstin I have heard battery life on the voyage sucks!

0
Kerstin

@Jessicka It’s okay. Not so great like the Paperwhite but that’s cos it have another lighting. And if you turn the airplane mode on and the automatically lighting off it’s good.
The Oasis have really battery issues, but I love the rest of its features so much that I can live with it.

1
JessickaQuestion author

@Kerstin so there is a yellow tint on the voyage?

0
Kerstin

I had a perfect white lighting.

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Kerstin I’m really debating the switch. I like the idea of the page turning bars and the screen being flush

0
Kerstin

I really, really loved it. I just did the upgrade to the oasis and gave the voyage to a good friend who had no money to buy it.
And she loves it too. She also had a paperwhite before and said there are worlds between those two.

1
JessickaQuestion author

awesome! I am still considering buying it and if I dont like it I can always send it back for a full refund….

0
Kerstin

Then you can’t do nothing wrong. Please report if you like it.

0
JessickaQuestion author

That’s very true. I cant fo wrong is I buy it and don’t like it.

Kristy

I have had a paperwhite for over 5 years. I did not feel it was worth the upgrade….but the new oasis was definitely worth the upgrade. It has a larger screen, buttons for scrolling, and waterproof.

Sorry I never had a paper white. Only a fire which I hated. I would say if you are going to spend that much might be worth it to splurge and get an Oasis.

I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. I have had each of the kindle models and just last week I “downgraded” by returning my brand new Oasis for a new Paperwhite. The batteries just aren’t as good in the Voyage and Oasis, and for me, that’s a really big deal. (Yes, I made sure it wasn’t stuck indexing – the Oasis still didn’t last a full week.) I do miss the physical buttons, but it’s not worth it overall. The Paperwhite is still the top model in my opinion.

I keep mine on airplane mode due to battery drain.

1
Dorie

@Kristy I like using the dictionary and syncing with Goodreads so I keep my WiFi on personally. But that’s always a good option if you prefer it, it just didn’t work for me… I know I’m a heavy reader, too (minimum 3-4 books/week, generally a book a day) so my experience isn’t going to be the same as everyone else’s. But for me, there’s no beating the Paperwhite. I love mine!! ❤️❤️

0
Kristy

I agree…it is a pain but it’s the only thing that helps the battery. The battery drain and no Amazon cover are my only 2 complaints. I’m hoping a future update can help the battery life.

Dorie

I’ve read on Kindle forums that what I’ve experienced isn’t uncommon. They’re having battery issues with the Oasis’s. The 2016 version was a little better, but it had the mandatory battery case. I was so excited about the 2017 version being waterproof but apparently they still haven’t fixed the battery issues and it’s actually even worse without the battery case. I have really high hopes for the next generation though! ?? I would love a waterproof kindle with the battery life of the Paperwhite.

0
Kristy

My battery is drastically low by the end of 1 book and completely drains without reading at all within a week. I was saving my new kindle books for a trip and every time I opened it it was almost dead without even using it. Airplane mode is like a bandaid.

0
Dorie

That’s about what I got with my Oasis. Since I last charged my Paperwhite, I’ve read 5 books (all over 350-400 pages) and it still has over 50% battery left. With WiFi and syncing on at all times. I’m so glad I made the switch. ?

1
Kristy

My paperwhite lasts forever. I still love it and I’m definitely keeping it. I took both on vacation and liked the smaller size for day trips off the ship.

0
JessickaQuestion author

So I would be better off keeping my paper white and not upgrading? I keep my paper white on airplane mode

0
Kristy

I do not regret upgrading but I know some have returned it due to the battery. I just keep it on airplane mode. It also has Goodreads on it. I absolutely love it but I know for some the battery has been a deal breaker.

1
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy the battery on my paperwhite lasts about 1 month on airplane mode and that’s when I’m not reading it everyday! I have many people saying there’s a yellow tint in the voyage

0
Kristy

I have never put my paperwhite on airplane mode and it lasts for weeks. If you are already using airplane mode then I don’t think the battery will bother you as much on the new oasis. I love the larger screen and buttons so I can deal with the battery. I did see where someone said the battery got better after all of the downloads were done. Maybe I need to try taking it off airplane mode.

1
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy yeah no clue. I just keep it on airplane mode because it’s what I was told to do when I first got my paperwhite.

1
Heather

I’m thinking of doing the same. I just got my oasis a few days ago, but I’m not that thrilled by it. Thinking of going back to the Paperwhite.

0
Kristy

@Heather did you try the reboot?

0
Heather

@Kristy What do you mean?

0
Kristy

Image may contain: text that says 'Many issues with your Kindle, such as a frozen screen or issues with downloading content, can be solved by restarting your device. 1. Press and hold the Power button for a full 40 seconds. After the first 6 to 8 seconds, the screen will go blank, which is normal. ... 2. After the 40 seconds, release the Power button.'
0
Heather

I’m not having issues with it. I’m just not sure I like it.

0
Kristy

@Heather Is it just the battery or something else you are unhappy with?

Btw…when getting all of my loaded it ran the battery down a few times. It took quite a while to get everything on it.

0
Heather

Yeah, it took me a while to get my stuff on mine too. I just don’t like the way it feels in my hand, if that makes sense. I haven’t used it enough yet to see how the battery is.

0
Kristy

I like the size of my paperwhite when I have a smaller purse but I really like the buttons and screen size on the oasis (which of course are the reasons it is bigger lol). I find mine comfortable but I do like my paperwhite cover better. The oasis cover feels like it is cutting into my finger.

0
Heather

I’m also having buyer’s remorse. LOL! I don’t really think it’s worth the price tag.

0
Kristy

I agree it’s overpriced. The $200+ I spent on my paperwhite was overpriced too. Lol. I feel like I’ve used the paperwhite for 5 years so I guess it’s worth it.

All of the articles about ereaders being less popular…I think maybe they have just gotten too expensive when you can buy a fire for less than $100.

0
Heather

$200 on a Paperwhite? Dang.

0
Kristy

It has the 3g

0
Heather

Oh. Yeah, I don’t use all of that.

0
Kristy

I started with the 2nd gen kindle and had the internet so I’ve gotten it on the paperwhite and oasis.

0
Kristy

It is nice travelling. Lol

0
JessickaQuestion author

So should I get it or not

0
Heather

@Jessicka What do you have now? The Paperwhite?

0
Kristy

I’m very happy with mine.

I started with a 2nd gen kindle. 5 years ago I upgraded to a paperwhite. In Nov I upgraded to the new oasis.

2
Heather

@Jessicka I sent you a PM.

0
Kristy

But I have seen other posts like Heather’s. I think you either love it or hate it. The paperwhite is a hard act to follow for kindles.

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Heather yes I have the paperwhite

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Heather I got your message

0
Kristy

@Jessicka
Are you happy with your paperwhite? Why are you considering the new oasis?

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy I like the bigger size, the waterproof, the page turning buttons

0
Kristy

Jessicka Ryan Then you will probably love it. I didn’t want the buttons when I ordered it. I even considered not ordering because of the buttons but I love the buttons. They are probably my favorite feature and the bigger screen is great too.

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy I live in California and the waterproof is nice to have

0
Kristy

I don’t regret the new oasis but I have seen quite a few posts about people who prefer their paperwhite.

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy if I dont like it I can always sell it or give it to my daughter who only reads 1-2 hours a night and besides I use airplane mode now so it doesn’t seem like it’ll bother me

0
Kristy

My son liked mine so much he ordered one in Jan. He reads a lot of anime. I guess there is some type of anime mode on it too.

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy I’m getting the oasis and getting a good deal on it as well

1
Kristy

Where did you find a deal on it?

0
JessickaQuestion author

@Kristy a friend is gonna sale me here.

0
Kristy

Lucky you! I still have one more payment on mine.

0
