I usually read non fiction that has a table of contents at the front, so lists each chapter and how many pages per chapter on average. this helps me to plan for reading on train trips etc.

I do that, every time! I check how many chapters as well as how many pages……But NEVER….EVER…..how the book ends.

Yeah, I do unless I am using my kindle. I also check number of pages and try and set a certain amount of pages or chapters to read each day to try and finish it in a good amount of time.

I check the number of pages and like it when chapters are short rather than long.

Same. I tend to read faster when the chapters are shorter. I think it’s because when chapters are short it’s easier to commit to reading an extra chapter. Whereas when the chapters are long I might want to read an extra chapter but don’t feel like committing to reading 10+ pages.

My mom will tell me where she is in a book based off the chapters. “I’m on chapter 57” like I’ve memorized what happens in each chapter of each book ?. Funnily enough she does it with books I haven’t read also.

Yes, but usually after I have started reading.

I check the number of pages but never determine how many I will read in one sitting. If it is a good book I will have trouble putting a down and if I have to force myself to go on reading then I will discard the book. Life is too short to read anything that is not engrossing and there are so many wonderful books out there.

If there’s a contents page at the front, I’ll flick back to that every so often. I’m reading Watership Down at the moment, which is chaptered and then split into four parts. It’s nice seeing how close I’m getting to the end of my current part 🙂

Most ebooks have the chapter list conveniently located in the front, so I get to know how many chapters to expect before I begin reading. 🙂

I don’t look to see how the book ends, just how many chapters there are

I do, and I feel a little like OCD because I hold those pages I’m reading, LOL, sometimes I have a second book mark to keep myself going, if a book has super short chapters then I don’t even bother. Sometimes I count in tens, get to first 20 pages or read the first 50, get to 100. I average 200 pages a day. I’m not always obesssive on the amount of pages..I am autistic sooo maybe that’s why I do that. I like to divide how many chapters a day I’m going to do, this is usually with very BIG books. Especially those that are challenging like history books or any non fiction however if the story is super engrossing the pages fly by themselves LOL and I don’t keep track of daily chapters or pages, like God Emperor of Dune, I read that in two days, insane!

Yep, and see how many pages there are, of course sometimes, not knowing that there is actually questions for a group discussion in there, upset’s me.

I feel like a zebra in a group of horses.
I just open the book and start reading.
The only time I pay attention to the Chapter Heading or Number is if I’m doing something like cleaning and promise myself a break of ___ chapters before resuming.
The only time I look at the number of pages is if I trying to finish a book in time for a book club meeting to access my odds of finishing in time.
