Nope. Good Omens is really good, and I’m currently rereading Redemption of Althalus for the umpteenth time. Plus one of my favourite series (the series name always slips my mind but it’s Elvenbane, Elvenborn, Elvenblood and I wish there were more) is written by two authors. As long as it’s fun to read, I don’t care 🙂
@Arie not had that situation yet but I guess it would depend on how much the original author had written before they died…not a fan of fan fiction really and some of these books amount to just that.
Only came across it once, myself. WoT series. And Sanderson finished it off excellently. Did help that Jordan had enough time to sort out notes and a general plot order before he died.
Not anymore. I used to, no real reason why. But then I read a couple that changed my mind. Collaborations can have issues where the style just doesn’t mesh well. But I’ve yet to encounter one that has that issue.
I definitely ‘pause’…. I admit I don’t jump with excitement over the idea Once in a blue moon – there’s two authors – women who write together regularly… Thriller-Girl -power- writers. Lol I’m thinking of the book but I can’t remember the name and I can’t remember the name of that women and I bet all of you know which book I’m talking about they wrote two thrillers… both books or actually pretty good. …. but generally no I’m not a huge fan.
The concept of co-authors confuses me. I somehow feel like there’s not one author’s voice. I’ve read books that Terry Pratchett has co-authored, but I do generally avoid them.
If it’s co-written with one of my favorite authors (a perfect example being James Patterson, who I absolutely love) no. I don’t. And on second thought I don’t bypass co-written books at all.
It really depends. You know me well by Nina Lacour and David Levitan was amazing. so I guess the answer is no I don’t bypass it just based on it having two authors.
Some of the best books I have ever read were written by two authors and I never really considered that as criteria for choosing a book. The Pendergast series by Preston and Child immediately comes to mind as well as pretty much anything by James Patterson.
Some of these answers sadden me. I co-write with a friend, and I don’t think anyone has ever said they could tell there are two different people writing. On the other hand, I love that there are people out there giving a chance to books with two authors.
Why would you want to? I guess I don’t understand that. I loved the Illuminae series and that was written by two authors. Sometimes I don’t even realize it has two authors until I start reading it. I still base my decision on the premise. I don’t know why some people would specifically skip a book just because it had two authors.
I’d love to read a book by two authors. I haven’t yet.
Leviathan Wakes by James Corey.. two people…
The book series has a tv show now:
The Expanse
I’m currently reading one buy 2 authors
I didn’t actually notice till after I started reading.
Maybe, if one of those names is James Patterson!!!!!!
Nope. Good Omens is really good, and I’m currently rereading Redemption of Althalus for the umpteenth time. No. Love the books by Douglas preston and lincoln child and Jodi picoult and her daughter samantha books too???
My favorite book is written by two authors
@Cherry name?
@Jean good omens by Neil gaiman and Terry pratchett
I avoid them too
Didn’t have a good experience with such books (not fiction anyway).
I avoid them.
Then I wouldn’t have read Good Omens and it’s one of my favorite books!!!!!! I try to keep an open mind.
No, I like them.
I’m not a big fan of them either. I can’t put a finger on why though
@Lena Exactly! Can’t figure why it bothers me.
Yes – for some reason it puts me off! ?
Liked the series by husband and wife team Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo. I think that’s my only example.
Not particularly, but I do tend to avoid ones that have been “co-authored” after the original author has died and someone has finished off their work.
What about if it were a series and only way to find out how it all ends?
@Arie not had that situation yet but I guess it would depend on how much the original author had written before they died…not a fan of fan fiction really and some of these books amount to just that.
Only came across it once, myself.
WoT series. And Sanderson finished it off excellently. Did help that Jordan had enough time to sort out notes and a general plot order before he died.
No in fact some top series are written by multiple. The fantasy series named by lIlona Andrews is a husband and wife team
The Expanse tv show is nased off a book series written by two authors.
First book is Leviathan Wakes
by James sa Corey
I do
Depends on the book, I’m not going to dismiss a book just because it has a collaboration
The Wife between was pretty amazing.
Noooo…such amazing opportunity
My favorite series of all time is written by two authors The Blood Gospel, the Sanguine series
I should have with Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King and his son Owen. God that was painful.
yes! i don’t know why, maybe because i feel like it’s not going to ring true- like I want a story from a single mind because that’s what I”m used to.
Nope…. if I’m already a fan of one author, I’ll check it out. I’ve found at least 4 other authors I love after reading collaborations….
Yes, I hate that.
Yes. Except the Literary Potato Peel book.
I really like Preston & Child books as well as James Rollins & Rebecca Cantrell Series (Sanguine Series)
I like the Inspector Rutledge series by Charles Todd (a mother/son team).
I avoid books written by 2 people.Too often they don’t flow nicely.
As a general rule
Just read the wife between us, 2 authors, great book could not put it down
Not anymore. I used to, no real reason why. But then I read a couple that changed my mind. Collaborations can have issues where the style just doesn’t mesh well. But I’ve yet to encounter one that has that issue.

No Preston and Child are amazing
Nope it gives me a chance to read more by other author not by just 1 author.
It is a gamble for sure.
Spin the wheel raggity man!!!
Yeah, sometimes. I will often bypass a book if the main character is a woman but the author is a man.
You wouldn’t like James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club Series then. It’s set in the tone of a female cop from San Fran. But written by a male.
Depends on the author’s.
Yep
The concept of co-authors confuses me. I somehow feel like there’s not one author’s voice. I’ve read books that Terry Pratchett has co-authored, but I do generally avoid them.
Not all of them work but sometime two people get together to make magic.I like several book by two author don’t judge a book for having two parents ?
Try The Talisman. Stephen King and Peter Straub.
No. I love Childs and Preston. Really good.
no I loved the kate daniels series written by Ilona Andrews (a pen name used by a husband and wife)
I do. Not even sure why
If it’s co-written with one of my favorite authors (a perfect example being James Patterson, who I absolutely love) no. I don’t. And on second thought I don’t bypass co-written books at all.
Yes, love James Paterson but hate any book he co-writes. I think all he does is add his name…
I haven’t really enjoyed the ones I have read in the past
It really depends. You know me well by Nina Lacour and David Levitan was amazing. so I guess the answer is no I don’t bypass it just based on it having two authors.
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman is one of the best books ever.
Nicci French, husband and wife team. Their books are good.
Is it because you can tell 2 people have written the narrative?
Almost always.
Yes x
There’s a series I read by p.j. Tracey and they were ( the mother sadly has passed) a mother and daughter writing team. Fabulous books xx
@Claire great books and the only ones I read with two authors.
There’s a new one out soon I believe called the guilty dead. Not sure if it’s written by just the daughter or the mum contributed before she passed xx
Thanks Claire I’ll be looking out for it, sad to hear the mother died .
Yeah when I googled it said 2016. At least she has a legacy to share with her daughter ? xx
I love the Monkeewrench books. I didn’t know the mum had died ?
Some of the best books I have ever read were written by two authors and I never really considered that as criteria for choosing a book. The Pendergast series by Preston and Child immediately comes to mind as well as pretty much anything by James Patterson.
No but I really like Preston/Child and I can’t stand them separately
@Paula I really like them too!
I’m not going to read The President is Missing even though I do enjoy Patterson.
Not unless it’s a James Patterson plus one.
Preston and Child do it so well, that it would be sad to miss out on others who might do it equally well.
The House of Night Series was written my a mother and her daughter. It was an amazing Series. I couldn’t even tell that it was written by two people.
I enjoyed most of this series
Always. No idea why.
Some of these answers sadden me. I co-write with a friend, and I don’t think anyone has ever said they could tell there are two different people writing.

Nope. Loved Jefferson Bass which is two authors
