Susan Elia MacNeal’s ‘Maggie Hope’ series is fabulous. Jacqueline Winspear and Iona Wishaw are good, too. If you haven’t read Fiona Davis, check her out – her historical fiction novels are all based around buildings, the latest was ‘The Masterpiece’. They are all standalone novels rather than series
@Danee If you like Eloisa James, have you tried Loretta Chase (“Mr. Impossible” is hysterical)? And, of course, Georgette Heyer (she does madcap humor so brilliantly— try “The Nonesuch” or “Arabella” or “The Grand Sophy”.)
I’m a mystery reader and from Rochester N.Y. area and so I liked the Seneca Falls Mysteries series set during civil war, slavery abolition, and womens rights movement in that area. Author Miriam Grace Monfredo
