For the first time I am keeping a journal. I write down what I’ve read and a few words describing how I felt about the book. I simply use a notebook and pen. I started keeping records on Jan 1st.

I use Goodreads. I also recently discovered they have a private notes section for each book I have added to my shelves. It’s handy to have the ability to write the odd note as a personal reminder.

I normally organize what I have read by shelf organization. If I finish a book, it goes on the top whereas if I am still reading something it goes on the bottom.

About the only thing I can remember, must be because I am a retired librarian, I used to be able to remember what some of my friends and patrons had read as well?

I use my local library and they tell me if i’ve had a book before. Last time my hubby went for me with a list one of the librarians who cudnt find anything ön the list suggested a book i’d already read (bought from a supermarket) she said i adnt read it. What she meant was i adnt borrowed it from the library. Frustrating but on reflection she was trying to help

I am on a library to keep all the books you read. I wish I had started It sooner. But If I think or see a book I read I add it. It really helps. We are a family of readers. We have a house full of books. I have started giving a lot away. Others should get to read them.

I have had a notebook since the beginning of 2005. Besides the writer and the title of the book I write some comments (not more than a few lines). A couple of years ago I started also an Excel. There are no comments, but the following information: writer, title, language (besides Finnish I read in Swedish and English, starting to read in Spanish and Icelandic, hoping to read in Italian one day) and category (novel, collection of short stories, play, poetry, crime book, non-fiction etc.). I still have also the notebook..

Janet

I’m impressed by your breadth of languages

0
Helena

Thank you. Swedish (as it is an official language in Finland) and English I studied at school. The first courses in Spanish I took over 20 years ago (I don’t actively study it now), Icelandic I started a couple of years ago and Italian this summer.

1
Janet

@Helena I lived in France for 2 years and spoke reasonably well. Reading in French was a challenge!

0
Heidi

I do. I write down the author, title and date and often a couple of comments about the book. It has become such a habit that I don’t feel I have really finished the book unless I have made my comments?

I do – twice over! I have a journal I bought in the British Library called “Books I Have Read & Books I Want to Read” which is in alphabetical order of author. I also have a catalogue on my phone of books I own, which has saved me many times from repurchasing books!

My library account keeps a record of all the books I have borrowed over the years, detailing when they were borrowed and returned. They do the same with DVD’s and Cd’s. It also keeps a record of the many reservations I have placed. Since 2009, when I joined my present library, I’ve had over 700 reservations and have read over 900 books. My wife often asks me if I get fed up reading. I think these figures tell the tale!

Fed up of reading? Is that possible, I’ve been all over this world and others hunted monsters, serial killers, fell in love, fought in wars and never left my chair and not once have I been fed up lol I’ve had hand cramp a fair bit though lol

2
Linda

Yes. I have an Excel spreadsheet. When we find an author we like, I go to http://fantasticfiction.com/ and get a list of all their books in order of publication and then note when either of us reads what. Even then I occasionally buy or check out a duplicate!
