Does ‘A Man Called Ove’ get any better? I want to love it but I’m bored out of my mind! ?

Does ‘A Man Called Ove’ get any better? I want to love it but I’m bored out of my mind! ?
I struggled. ?
Did you find it to be slow paced?
I’m only 35 pages in.
@Kristina yes and I didn’t feel it went anywhere. Others loved it tho. X
I loved it
So, it gets better?
Its a great story.
Keep going x
I never got into it. I read to the end thinking it would get better. Just found it odd.
I think you either like it right away or never at all
I hated it and gave up n
Um….. I really didn’t like it and found it a struggle. Just kept hoping it got better. Read it. But straight in the charity box. Some people think it’s heartwarming….. I just found it very depressing.
I’m okay with depressing, but the story doesn’t seem to be going anywhere!
Oh well it speeds up about 60-70% through.
Oh boy… lol
I gave up at 65%. Struggled to keep going for book club. Just couldn’t get into it.
I found it improved as it went along and I’m really glad I read it. But if you are “bored out of your mind” – move on to something else that grabs you. Life’s too short!
What I’m doing now, is listening to the audio and reading along and it’s going a little better! Lol
Delighted to hear it 🙂
I loved it!
i didn’t like it at first BUT i hate abandoning a book and WAS SO SO SO SO GLAD i stuck with it!!! gave it 5/5 in the end!
I’m the same. I’m not one to abandon a book either!
Really touching story, hang in there!
Didn’t like it – couldn’t carry on – I think you either gets these from start or don’t – just like the 100 yr old man that climbed out the window. Gave up on that after half way – just didn’t get it!
no
For me, no, I sped read to the end and called it good.
I loved it!
Sadly no it doesn’t.
I loved it! It made me cry in places.
What?! I couldn’t finish it fast enough!! Sobbed like a baby at the ending!
It was one of my favorites of the year, but if you’re bored, it may just not be for you. Give it a little longer if you’re not far into it.
Yup was bored too that is why I didn’t finish it
I enjoyed it my husband didn’t
I didn’t like it at all. But, the end is better than the rest of the book. Ove annoyed the heck out of me.
I had a tough time with his age and couldn’t get past that. He acted like a 70 year old man, not 50’s.
@Carolyn I know! When I read he was 59 I just couldn’t align that with the descriptions of the way he acted.
Was slow but I loved it.
Stick with it. Great book.
I struggled in the beginning too, but was glad I finished it. Totally worth it.
It bored me. I finished it but wish I never.
One of my favorites
That’s the one I’m starting tomorrow…
Don’t listen to them lol
I liked the book but it is not a page turner-sometimes I wanted to kick him in the rear to get moving but I thought the end was good.
Loved it..
I read it. It was okay!
I stopped reading it on my kindle. Then felt guilty months later. Pls believe me. It gets better.
I disliked the book but I dislike it through audio
You disliked both?
Grrr auto correct. Did like through audio
Hated it to the bitter end. Cannot understand what the fuss is about.
I loved it and him a lot!!!
Still struggling half way through
Loved it! Took a while but loved it
I loved this book, which I was surprised by as I wasn’t sure I would. We all have an Ove in our life!
I described this book on good reads as “a beautiful book”. I would absolutely recommend this to everyone. It was great
I teared up when I found out what Parvaneh’s daughter wanted for her birthday
Awww so good. Try the audio.
No I didn’t like it either
It was a little slow for me but I did love it. Definitely cried at the end
Haven’t read the book but recently saw the movie and loved it. I wouldn’t leave the story in the middle.
It is very simple, bit nice. I can see why people find it boring.
I couldn’t finish it. I read a few chapters, and then I read the last chapter to see if the ending was good. Honestly I think I got the gist of it and I’ll leave it at that. Moving on. ?
I think it’s worth sticking with, it is a beautiful book.
Gave up on it but might try again having read some of the comments
I didn’t enjoy it at all. Kept reading thinking I was missing something but I wasn’t
Loved it – sorry !
Why are you sorry? I loved it too and I’m not sorry at all 🙂
The film looks good too – shame its not in English
Oh I’d love to see the film! Is it subtitled?
Well it is in Israel – in Hebrew !!!!
Oops! I speak some Hebrew but nowhere near enough to follow a whole film ?
@Gina no it’s in Swedish Gina With both Hebrew and English subtitles
@Susan have you seen it ?
@Gina yes!
I’m starting to love it now! It took a while!
Hated it!!
Loved it!
Absolutely loved it
Never finished it
Loved Ove!
Loved it so much I read more books by the same author.
Me too. I started with My Grandmother bought all the rest of his books. Loved Ove, finished it through tears!
It is worth finishing. I felt the same way!
I loved it but can see why it might not appeal to everyone
Yes it does.
I gave up on it. What was I missing when so many people loved this?
