I feel the same… but recently started a book that is written in 1st person… and it through me off for a moment… i cannot remember the last time i read a book written in 1st… and find it a little harder to relate to… anyone else feel this way?
I don’t mind 3rd person, or 1st person singular. There’s pluses and minuses to either technique, and I think as long as it’s done thoughtfully, I’m not picky.
However, I recently read a book written in 1st person plural and that got really old after about 15 pages.
@Grace Hardest thing I ever did, and never thought I would. If you want to see how it worked out, the first 1 and 1/2 chapters are available for the “Look Inside” feature on Amazon: “How Your Life Matters:Your Personhood Manifesto.” Nonfiction.
I never want to try that approach again. But I think it worked in this case.
I think with self-help or non fiction it’s different. I’ve read books about “what to do when your…..” type and reading material directed at “You” is not too bad.
I don’t mind first person as long as it’s only one character. I find it confusing when several characters tell the story from their own perspective, unless it is clearly indicated by chapter breaks, etc. Pulls me out of the story otherwise.
Definitely third person
I prefer 3rd, but I’ve learned to adjust to 1st.
Third

Third. The only time I like first person is if it’s in a memoir.

First
I don’t really have a preference as long as the story is good I just enjoy the book ??
Third!
Either one works for me? It’s the story that matters.
Either as long as it’s consistent
First person, it feels like im the character because when i read a book it becomes my world.
I cant seem to get into books written in 3rd person i find it confusing! So i prefer 1st or Duo.
I do enjoy both alot but I definitely have to switch it up. I cannot read two first person books in a row!
I don’t know that I have a preference.
I prefer 3rd person.
First
First.
I’m happy with either.

Huh. Never read a book like that. So everything was “we” and “us”?
Yeah. I think the intent was to give a sense of how the entire group of people were all dealing with the same issues, even though they were from many different backgrounds. But it got old fast. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17978193-the-wives-of-los-alamos
first
Third
usually third but it depends
I prefer third—and I totally surprised myself as an author by writing my third book in second person.
Second person is probably my least favorite, though I tip my hat to you as a writer for taking on that challenge.

I like them both. I also like both past and present tense. I think different stories call for different styles of narration.
Depends on the author’s intent and how the POV serves the storytelling.
1st
1st
Doesn’t matter at all.
I once saw portions of a book written in Second person!! Yes it was a novel

3rd
I don’t actually mind either way.
Definitely third…and I’ve never thought about it, but when I did I just instantly knew I enjoy third person so much better.
Either
Both
1rst
Always first person.
