Buy, because I treat my books a little roughly. When I have read a book, it looks like it’s been read!! I’d feel embarrassed to hand it back to its original owner. I also like to read books that look like they have been read lots of times.

Why are you so rough on books?

1
Steve

I take a while to read them, will shove them in my bag/pocket, have been known to drop books in the bath(!) and will tend to open them wide enough to break the spine, even if I try not too. I’m not a malicious abuser of books, I’m just a rough lover, I guess.

no libraries for me here in Greece so I usually buy or might swap with friends (I never lend as I’ve had problems in the past with not getting books back) but I prefer to buy because then I choose the books I really want and can re-read them.

In a sense, both. I love to buy and collect books. My dream home has a two-story) ((maybe even three-story with balconies) library. I still love the library, though. You can take risks without spending money. I’ve found a lot of books that I normally wouldn’t read and fell in love. I’ve also read some that I planned to buy… and was grateful the I borrowed it first so I didn’t waste my money.

I love to buy, but economically, borrowing is the way I go. If I love a book while reading, I’ll return and purchase it and finish it. That way the books I love are collected. I have bought others when they are at library sales, etc. I love my library! ❤️?

Buy, but don’t have to be brand new. I frequent a lot of thrift stores and go to library sales. I used to keep every single book. Since downsizing, finish a book, goes in donation pile. Only keep those I’m absolutely certain will reread.
