Both, but I hate when I read a book only to find out its the middle of the series.

Both. Some books are wonderful just on their own, and you don’t feel that it needs to continue, and then some ideas or worlds or characters are made for the longevity of a series. That doesn’t, however, mean that the series ends up being better than the stand-alone book!

Every book I have intensely loved has been a stand alone. However, I did so enjoy the alphabet series by the late and great Sue Grafton

Prefer stand alone books mostly because series tend to run out of steam half way through .. eg .. Clan of the Cave Bear was great till the 4th one then it all turned to shite.

I love both, but a good series is always nice. I think it just depends.

Only series I like are Patricia cornwellโ€™s Scarpetta series & Flowers in the attic series. Apart from those I prefer stand alone ?

Depends on the story. I wish Ender’s Game had been a standalone, I’ve never read the rest because there is no possible way they can stand up to it. On the flip side, Laurie Breton turning her Coming Home – a romance at least as strong as Ender’s Game – into a series felt natural with all the various side characters.

I read them all. The books directly after are hard to get through but the last three are incredible.

I thought Dune would be that way too but almost every book is better than Dune ?

I like both. But, when itโ€™s a stand-alone book, I like not feeling โ€œobligatedโ€ to read the series in order to โ€œfinishโ€. ?
