That’s a tough decision for me, as I enjoy both!! Physical will always be a must too! I take turns unless I have multiple from the library in ebooks!! Which do you prefer?
Physical – I love to hold books! I love to smell them! I have dropped too many in the tub to get anything digital! I love to see how far I have read and how far I have left!
They make waterproof e-readers now! I got the oasis for my bday earlier this year but I think there is a paperwhite waterproof one now too. I dunked mine in….it works!
Physical books, I spend a lot of time on a computer in my day job and when writing my own books, so having a physical book feels my relaxing and I can actually switch off
My Kindle. Bought it for myself last Christmas. Haven’t picked up a physical book since then. Fits in my purse, can change the font, no wait when ordering books, can start reading immediately, easier to hide at work. ?
Nothing beats the scent and tactile feel of a physical book, but eBooks are the only way to go on foot/mass transit/a travel vacation — and audiobooks for car rides.
Physical books, nothing can match the feel of the paper between my finders and the smell of the paper.. If I like a book I’ll definitely get a physical book copy for rereading.. And ebook I only read while traveling..
I used to prefer physical books until I got to college and ran out of space. I enjoy ebooks now because I can read in the dark next to my husband. I can get ebooks from my library without ever having to leave my house and I never have to worry about late fees. I’m due with my first child in february and I’ll be reading a lot then during my down time!
I prefer physical books. I love the smell and the feel of holding a real book in my hands.?☺️ But, I receive quite a few advance reader copies in ebook format so I use my kindle regularly too.
I do both. I love physical books much more. The feeling, smell of an actual book can’t be replaced. I commute 3 hours a day for work so I listen to audible books.
Physical. I use a computer too much at work, and between that and my phone, I like getting back to real paper. Plus, I think it is beautiful to have real books.
BOTH! Many e-books are cheaper than the physical book. I could never afford to buy physical copies of all the books I have on my Kindle. However, especially reading right before bedtime, a physical book seems more comfortable. There is something delightful about holding a physical book in my hands.
I read too voraciously to have house room for all the books I read and re-read. So I’m an e book fan in most things. But hard cover for photographic intense books m, books of instruction, cook books and children’s books.
I so wish this ridiculous “which is better” could end immediately. I love to read. I read utilizing different formats depending upon the situation. This should not be some fabricated “battle”. Readers matter, not the format they choose to read.
I prefer ebooks because I like to read at night and I can use the backlight without turning all the lights on. Also, I love that I can adjust the font size. Sometimes my eyes are tired and I like a larger font. Also, I can carry around a ton of downloaded books … I can go on and on.
I prefer physical books but I use both. Physical books are simply easier for me to get lost in than an ereader. I find my it harder to focus. But nothing beats an ereader on long trips or in bed while the hubby is sleeping and I want to read.
Physical. I like the feeling, the smell, and being able to have them on display on my bookshelves. Plus it’s just not the same shopping for e-books as it is regular books (at least if you go to a physical store rather than online)
I read both. I love just the feel and “heft” of a traditional book, a REAL book. I also love the convenience of e-books because I can carry many books with me — right in my purse, and add books while on vacation. I also read many ARC e-books and write my reviews as I read by making notes as I read and saving them in “the cloud” for later use. So really, a book is great no matter its form.?❤️?
I still read book books, but when I do I miss a couple things about my kindle. 1. You can make the font a bigger size (helpful for my aging eyes:) 2. I like how the kindle tells you how many minutes are left in a chapter or the book. And 3. I like how you can highlight a word on the kindle to get a definition
It doesn’t matter to me. I purchase a lot of e-books because they’re usually more affordable. I still buy a few physical books of favorite authors, and I request physical books from the library.
Both! I buy the online for .99 and free for my kindle so I can read if I am stuck eating alone! 🙂 Otherwise, I read real books via purchase or library!
Nothing like physical books: the feel and smell. Plus I enjoy going to the library or bookstore to pick out books. Electronics bother my eyes after awhile and give me a headache
E books are great to take with you when you’re out doing errands or have dr appointments n to take on travels. Physical books are books to read at home
I have always loved physical books but e-books are vastly superior. They are easier to transport and to take on vacations or read in bed. The ability to instantly find the definition of the word that I don’t totally understand is incredible. The ability to search the book for something I may have missed or to immediately look up a detail via Google or Wikipedia Is something I do on a daily basis. For me it’s impossible to imagine going back to physical books.
I prefer Kindle especially when reading a 1,000+ page book. Much easier on the wrists. Thinks I miss about books: the smell and feel of the pages, and I love watching how the bookmark moves closer to the end of the book ?
Love opening that cover and smelling that BOOK SMELL … will use ebooks when traveling but not for everyday. Think it all depends on age and what you were taught on.
By far I prefer a paper book….it just doesn’t feel the same not to have it in my hands, to turn the pages, to just have that tactile sensation…..that being said though, there are HUGE advantages to electronic books in the area of space and weight. I move a lot with my job, and although I have 3 bookcases of books, I have many more electronic ones than physical ones merely due to space and weight limits. And when I next move, I have to pair down more of my physical ones. 🙁
when Ebooks came out I liked them better cause they was cheaper, but I am starting to rethink this as the prices of ebooks are getting nasty and way too pricey.( Greed has gone through roof) I think I might go back to regular books. I was told it was because everyone bought electric readers so that was why prices rose. I have my own idea on this. it is still called greed of publishing companies. Authors do not always get the money.
@Keri I have ADHD and can’t function if my hands aren’t busy! I had no idea what real focus and peace felt like until I discovered audioknitting. Brain stimulated, hands busy, listening to a great story is my happy place.
I like to hold a physical book in my hand but i do like my Kindle for travel. Im in Florida right now and it would have weighed my suitcase way over if i brought all the books i have read.
This is such an age old debate. Who cares? If you read a paperbook, ebook or even listen to a book, you’re still getting a story and reading and that’s all that matters. This debate always makes me smh.
I love physical books—this is said with the complete understanding that my MFA is in book and paper arts, so, grain of salt. I make books, I read books. I love books.
That said, though, I agree with the above: you’re still getting the story and that is what matters. However you ‘read,’ you’re still reading!
Physical books. Because they’re colorful I think. And because I’m used to reading that way. I tried reading on my Kindle but it just didn’t appeal to me.
I prefer physical books because I can hold them. I’ve never read an e-book.
That’s a tough decision for me, as I enjoy both!! Physical will always be a must too! I take turns unless I have multiple from the library in ebooks!! Which do you prefer?
@Cindy I prefer physical books. I’ve never read an ebook.
@Jerri ?
Physical books for sure. I like being able to easily go back to something I might have missed. I only get the e books if free or super cheap.
That’s the one reason I like ebooks better: Search. So spoiled by that feature that I can’t stand wasting time looking back to find something.
Both depends on my environment
Physical – I love to hold books! I love to smell them! I have dropped too many in the tub to get anything digital! I love to see how far I have read and how far I have left!
They make waterproof e-readers now! I got the oasis for my bday earlier this year but I think there is a paperwhite waterproof one now too. I dunked mine in….it works!
Enjoy reading both. Some I have in both forms because I find reading on my Kindle PaperWhite is easiest at night in bed.
Used to be physical but now both. E-reader perfect for in dark at night. Now I can easily have 2+ books going at same time
Ebooks. The font is too small for me to read a real book. Plus storage became a problem.
Physical books, I spend a lot of time on a computer in my day job and when writing my own books, so having a physical book feels my relaxing and I can actually switch off
Physical books. I like the portability of physical books and you don’t have to worry about running out of battery.
My Kindle. Bought it for myself last Christmas. Haven’t picked up a physical book since then. Fits in my purse, can change the font, no wait when ordering books, can start reading immediately, easier to hide at work. ?
Don’t need a book light at night.
Nothing beats the scent and tactile feel of a physical book, but eBooks are the only way to go on foot/mass transit/a travel vacation — and audiobooks for car rides.
Ebooks, so much easier to read in bed?
I prefer physical books, but I’m learning to use my Kindle more. It cuts down on storing physical books.
I do like my Nook, but I like to hold a book better.
Both for me too! Kindle is easier for reading in bed when I’m tired. And for traveling and bringing several books.
My indle when I have to take public transportation and a book when I am sittinf imy recliner..
I prefer ebooks because I can adjust the font. They are also easier to transport, especially when you are reading more than one book at a time.
Physical books, nothing can match the feel of the paper between my finders and the smell of the paper.. If I like a book I’ll definitely get a physical book copy for rereading.. And ebook I only read while traveling..
Both!

I do both. I love physical books much more. The feeling, smell of an actual book can’t be replaced. I commute 3 hours a day for work so I listen to audible books.
Love ebooks when I travel, but prefer hard copy at home. And audio in the car.
Physical. I use a computer too much at work, and between that and my phone, I like getting back to real paper. Plus, I think it is beautiful to have real books.
Physical ?
Both
I get distracted too easily with e books. ?
Both. Hard cover books for reading cuddled under a blanket in my favorite recliner. And ebooks when I go to bed in the evening.
Either
Both. iPad for traveling and a good old book other times.
Physical books because i like the smell of them and because i stare at a computer screen all day at work I don’t want to do that at home too ???
I prefer physical books. I like the look and feel and even better the experience of reading and turning pages.
E books!! Still wander around Barnes and Noble …
Either
E-books because my device can read it to me, it’s portable, and I can carry a lot of books with me. I do like physical copies if they are pretty.
Physical- If I start to fall asleep, I lay it across my chest. I love the weight of it there.
“Lovers of print are simply confusing the plate for the food” – Douglas Adams
I so wish this ridiculous “which is better” could end immediately. I love to read. I read utilizing different formats depending upon the situation. This should not be some fabricated “battle”. Readers matter, not the format they choose to read.
Ebooks. I haven’t read a paperbook in many yrs. I do get hardcovers that are signed though, just to have.
I like ebooks better so I have hundreds of books everywhere I go and I don’t have to worry about wrinkles and rips on pages.
I prefer ebooks because I like to read at night and I can use the backlight without turning all the lights on. Also, I love that I can adjust the font size. Sometimes my eyes are tired and I like a larger font. Also, I can carry around a ton of downloaded books … I can go on and on.
I rather read the physical book…
I love the feel of a book in my hands….
I prefer physical books but I use both. Physical books are simply easier for me to get lost in than an ereader. I find my it harder to focus. But nothing beats an ereader on long trips or in bed while the hubby is sleeping and I want to read.

Physical
I’ve gone more the ebook route as I’m getting arthritis in my hands and it’s hard to hold books
Physical books! I don’t like reading e-books. It bothers my eyes.
Once in a while I have light glare when reading an ebook. I turn off all room lights – table lights etc are not needed for ebooks.
@Barb in my case it’s just my eyes getting older.
And my kindle fits in my purse and is easy to bring anywhere
Physical books. I like the feel and smell. I also like to find new reads at used bookstores.
Physical
Physical
Ebooks are so easy to travel with but I love physical books.
Physical books – love to hold and relish them!
I like a mixture —
Physically because I can just pick it up and read. I do not have to remember a password. I can highlight the pages if something grabs me
I like the ability to adjust the font size on ebook readers.
Physical! Only physical! I like the feel and smell of books
@Cathy me too
Physical ❤️
I love both!! I usually read my physical book during the day and kindle at night.
Whatever I can get my hands on!
It doesn’t matter to me. I purchase a lot of e-books because they’re usually more affordable. I still buy a few physical books of favorite authors, and I request physical books from the library.
Ebooks
Physical…I spend all my work life staring at a screen. Reading books gets me away from that. Plus I just love how they feel and smell <3
Physical, definitely.
Physical
Both
As long as you read why would it matter.
Tangible. I have to feel it and smell the book. It’s my drug.
Both! I buy the online for .99 and free for my kindle so I can read if I am stuck eating alone! 🙂 Otherwise, I read real books via purchase or library!
I like ebooks when I travel, but I prefer physical books. I love the feel and smell of a book!

Need a book in my ❤️?❤️?
Both
Physical, love the feel and smell of a real book…
Real book!
both.
Physical.
I like both. Ebooks are great for reading at night
Physical
Both
Paperback only for me
I prefer physical but ebooks are so much cheaper it’s hard not to buy them.
@Sandy
Physical!
I have always loved physical books but e-books are vastly superior. They are easier to transport and to take on vacations or read in bed. I prefer the physical book then I can share them with other easier
Depends on the book.
Physical so I can share them
I prefer Kindle especially when reading a 1,000+ page book. Much easier on the wrists. Thinks I miss about books: the smell and feel of the pages, and I love watching how the bookmark moves closer to the end of the book ?
Physical
Love the heft & weight of a physical book ? perfect to curl up & read in bed
Prefer physical books. Love my Paperwhite for travel and for good deals.
Actual physical books that you can hold in your hands
I have to have the spine book! 🙂 I have some downloaded on my Ipad for some time and have yet to read them! (I only have them b/c they were fee! 🙂 )
E-books. Sometimes I go between books AND I can carry my whole library with me at all times. Also makes getting new books a snap. Barefoot in pajamas!
My favorite place to read is the bathtub so I want a physical book!
E-books are my favorite way to read! I find it much easier to carry my Kindle with the amount of books I read!
For the last 9 years I’ve only read ebooks.
Physical I get more easily distracted with my kindle, but I do use my kindle more because of Net Galley, and digital loans.
Print books. I enjoy opening a book smelling the ink
Love the smell of a book and love using cool bookmarks
Love opening that cover and smelling that BOOK SMELL … will use ebooks when traveling but not for everyday. Think it all depends on age and what you were taught on.
I prefer the physical book. I like the feel of a book in my hands
Either is fine with me. Though lately I have run out of space to store print books so I buy more e-books.
Both. But ebooks take up less space and are lighter to carry on vacation.
Physical

Physical
Physical! I like holding them ?
Ebooks are all that I can see in the last few years. The library ebooks are my favorite.
Real books because I don’t think I am getting the whole book with the ebooks.
My ebooks are just as real as paperbooks. Just saying…
@Jules so they are unabridged? It is the whole book?
Definitely print. E books just don’t compare.
Physical books! There’s NOTHING like turning the pages of a ? and the smell! And it doesn’t hurt my eyes as bad as reading on my phone.
Both!
I like both.
when Ebooks came out I liked them better cause they was cheaper, but I am starting to rethink this as the prices of ebooks are getting nasty and way too pricey.( Greed has gone through roof) I think I might go back to regular books. Audiobooks have saved me! But between ebook and physical, I prefer physical. I have a hard time focusing on an ebook.
@Kadie I love audiobooks! I drive about 5000 miles a month for work and they keep me rolling!
@Keri I have ADHD and can’t function if my hands aren’t busy! I had no idea what real focus and peace felt like until I discovered audioknitting. Brain stimulated, hands busy, listening to a great story is my happy place.
Both and Audio books ?☺️?
Regular books.
Ditto what Eileen said.
I like to hold a physical book in my hand but i do like my Kindle for travel. Im in Florida right now and it would have weighed my suitcase way over if i brought all the books i have read.
Physical books. I love to hold it, turn actual pages and the smell of books.
Physical books
This is such an age old debate. Who cares? If you read a paperbook, ebook or even listen to a book, you’re still getting a story and reading and that’s all that matters. This debate always makes me smh.
I think the original poster was just curious.
But indeed, a story consumed is always good, no matter the medium! 🙂
Physical books. I guess I’m a collector as much as a reader.
I love physical books—this is said with the complete understanding that my MFA is in book and paper arts, so, grain of salt. I make books, I read books. I love books.

Physical books. Because they’re colorful I think. And because I’m used to reading that way. I tried reading on my Kindle but it just didn’t appeal to me.
Physical. Only like my Kindle is because some books only come in that format. Then it messes up my Physical Book Series.
Physical books. I can’t focus on e-readers.
E books, I read allot and the free books and reading authors trying to build readership.
I only read physical books.
Physical but I will read eBooks too.
Physical. The smell, the feel, turning real pages ☺️
Ebooks I can take them all anywhere.
