I prefer new because you have no worries about markings or damage to the book. But, there are cases where I have no choice but to get a used book because of the cost of the new book (such as when I was in university for both of my degrees, it was cheaper to get the used book), or because used is the only choice available.
I like to be frugal so I have gotten books by trading with friends, buying them from the hospital auxiliary for $.50 to a dollar and checking them out at the library. I also will buy the Kindle inexpensive ones or get my free book on prime. That being said every once in a while I splurged for a new book especially if we are reading it and book club as I like to highlight it and do post it notes
Used – I like my books to have a little history to them, like they’ve been loved or had some sort of adventure to them already before finding sanctuary in my little stacks and shelves 🙂
I like either – the only thing that matters is a good story # had a experience once where there was pages missing but that’s not a disaster you will never get over ???
For myself, I like new. Love that new book smell. But I also LOVE to browse used books stores for hours. Lots of hidden gems there. I’ve been known to buy piles of used books.
Depends on the state of the book. I like both but if there’s wrinkled or folded paper or stains on the pages i will not touch it And because I’m so picky I often go for new books or used – as good as new
I have a mixture of both. And it really depends. New books can be expensive, and used books can be in bad shape. someone could have a bunch of highlights in them, pen markets, annotations, and the book missing pages or falling apart. If the used books only has very few markings in it at the most, and it’s something that I like, I’ll buy it. Used books are much cheaper, but if there is no used book version, or the used book version is in too bad a shape, then I’ll buy new.
I prefer new books because of the smell and the idea of something new to be enjoyed. But I read both. Of course it depends on the state of the used one.
Used
Either so long as I can buy it
I agree
Both. I buy new for my collections and used to read.
I have often wondered if used books could talk what type of things have they seen in homes?

Whatever I can afford at the time. I like the oddball editions one finds in used books.

I love vintage books, but if they’re not 50-60 years old, I prefer new.

New. I can tell a used book because the typed words wear out after several readings.

Either one. I absolutely refuse to buy the new books because the prices are outrageous. So I buy the used ones whenever I can.
I rarely do as well. Why pay 24$ when I can get it for a buck
Either. I prefer hardcover.

Both … If the new books are beyond my budget then I go for used books in good condition.
Used. They’re recycled books that have character. And very often you find little somethings from the previous owners. I love those little treasures.
I like to read both.
