Buy – I love to see my collection grow, revisit them and also have them on hand for others to browse when they’re round

Borrowing, I don’t need to read the newest title straight away. I have found that most books can be sourced through my library so I just add to my TBR list and keep on reading.

Smart. I should do more library check outs….but I give in to the temptation of expanding my collection. lol

I like to go to the library. Then I don’t waste my money if they turn out to be bad, and I can spend money on other things!

2
Reply
Becky

That is what I try to do because it sucks when you buy a book and find out that the thing is bad. Then you end up getting rid of it. Albeit someone else gets to read it, but you wasted money.

I’d love to be able to buy them all. I buy ones I particularly like or if they’re really cheap at the time, but most often I’ll borrow from the library. Now…if I particularly like a book I read from the library, I’ll go out and buy a copy for my collection

Love this answer. Also I had to write in here that I love your cat. Mine is black and white. Add me if you want. Books and cats. Can’t go wrong there.

Currently I prefer borrowing. I don’t have the space (or the funds) to buy every book I want to read! Plus this way I can decide if I liked the book enough to eventually buy it.

Buy and borrow from Library. I am not a big borrower of books from friends. I worry about being so careful as it isn’t mine. Don’t get me wrong. I’m careful w/ all books, just more worried about friends.

Library…Losing my job was an eye opener on how much I would spend on books. Do you realize how much you save when you visit your library??? My library tells me how much I saved due to borrowing from them. I then donate $1.00 for every book, dvd, or other materials that I borrow. It’s a bargain.

2
Reply
Linda

My library does that too! Also if we want a just released book we can request a book and more times than not our library will purchase it. ?

1

@Linda Same here except for the Cozy Mysteries. If they purchased every Cozy Mystery the towns would probably go bankrupt lol

I never, regardless of author, buy a book outright. I borrow it from the library first. If I liked it and could honestly see myself rereading it, then I’ll buy it, finances permitting of course. I’ve wasted enough money when I buy the book first. Not to mention, sometimes you can buy the book used, but in really good shape still off of Amazon, Powell’s, exc.

Love both. I love living in a space that includes books as a vital part of its atmosphere and aesthetic…but I also get so giddy when I use the library. To me, they symbolize so much of what is good about humanity — the sharing, the sense of community, the valuing of knowledge and art. Plus, I could never in a million years afford all the books I want.

But I’ll also buy books secondhand by the cartful.

Library. I’ve run out of room (not to mention money)! At this point in my life (age 50), I’ve decided that the only books I will buy are the ones I will use for reference in the future (mostly American history), or love so much that I will likely read them again.
