I like them because they are quick and easy. I don’t have a lot of time to read so it may be the difference between reading or not. I pretty much read his stand alones.

I either totally love what he writes or completely hate them and I find there is no in between, the few boks he writes on his own are far better than the ones he collaborates on, but honestly, I find him all over the map in terms of quality.

2
Reply
Deanna

@Donna, this is because the “collaborations” are written by the collaborator and Patterson’s name is added. ?

0
Donna

That’s what I mean though, I would figure he would make sure the quality was all there but that might be just me. Even the women’s murder club series was so all over the place on quality it felt like the collaborator had a ghost writer too (haha) like, honestly though!

0
Deanna

@Donna, I think he coined the “ghost writer” concept. Truly not the same feel in many of his books.

0
Donna

That is what I mean though. Different series having a different feel makes sense. But not different books in the same series

0
Samantha

Yup! I love his Alex Cross series. I don’t care what anyone says about him. The books are good. So I’m gonna read them ?

@Emily oh i love that one. That’s my favorite love story he wrote and he doesn’t write many for that genre

0
Emily

I loved the parts from the diary, but I thought Katie was boring and I didn’t care for the tidy ending

Are all his novels related to vampires ? Are there any of his series without those factors?
I have read 2 or 3 of his books. I liked the writing style and all except for the vampire part. Not into it except in right out fantasy novels.

Reply
Samantha

@Aswathy no definitely not vampires at all. You may have read a young adult novel or something.

0
Samantha

@Aswathy most of his books are thrillers with serial killers / hitmen or women.

0
Aswathy

Good to know 🙂

1
Samantha

@Aswathy What Vampire Book was it? Bc I honestly don’t remember there being one ? I’m kind of curious now

0
Aswathy

Don’t remember the name. Read it years before when I had just started reading seriously. Was not familiar with authors and genre.Alex cross was the Protagonist .

0
Aswathy

Recently read Hide and Seek. Though there are no vampires one of the main characters drink human blood. So I assumed all his books are in that genre

0
Aswathy

Violets are blue ?

0
Aswathy

There was one other book also. Then I stopped reading him 🙁

0
Aswathy

Suggest a good one to start fresh

1
Samantha

@Aswathy oh I forgot violets are blue. Yeah no they’re not all like that at all! My favorite would have to be Kiss the Girls. Crazy good!

1
Aswathy

Thank you 🙂 Excited to have a long list of books to be read 😀

I’ve only read one of his—the first in the Alex Cross series—and I didn’t enjoy it. I was bored, didn’t care if any of the characters lived or died, and generally found the writing tedious and a chore to get through.

I understand why his readers like his books and to be honest, I tried to. And I’m not disrespecting the man, obviously he must be doing something right but, the plot format is the same throughout every book. It’s just so grossly predictable.

Brian Irons I agree with you on the Alex Cross series. The first 10 were really good but I think he is up to 29 and from 10 on the plots were the same but he has another series the Women’s Murder Club series and they are all unique in the plot and he has dozens of stand alone books that are just awesome. So, if the Alex Cross series is all you have read my suggestion would be to read one of his stand alone books to see if you opinion.

I still read his books but can’t keep up. He has so many books he writes or co writes with, plus I believe he has a ghostwriter. For me his books are hit or miss with the stories. I heard he’s arrogant in real life. I met him and his wife at a book signing after driving through a rain storm. His wife was lovely but he didn’t say anything even to my 10 yr old who’s book he was signing or look up for pictures .
