@Tera I had that problem when I was reading “The Grapes of Wrath” one summer. I could read five to ten pages at a time and then I’d fall asleep. It took forever but I got it done.
If I wake up in middle of night I read by flashlight so I dont turn on lights because I would never get back to sleep and I only sleep 4-5 hours a nite
I need a bookmark under or over the line I’m reading. It helps me focus. It can’t be paper or cardboard. It has to be plastic, but not too thick, preferably transparent. At present, I use laminated cards a friend gave me.
If a book doesnt pique my interest right away it may stay on my in progress pile for a looooong time…then I may pick it up and finish and move on lol. I don’t really dnf books.
I prefer to read on my kindle, but need to own the physical copy of the book as well. I also update my place in said book – moving my bookmark along – after reading via kindle. I often wonder if there are others who do the same… ?
I can never stop reading in the middle of a page. If I do stop in the middle of a chapter (which is rare), there has to be a completed paragraph at the bottom of the page.
I quit smoking some 28 years ago, but every once in a while, I desperately miss having a smoke and a cup of coffee while reading. I never cheat, but I do miss it.
I have to finish the book. It’s fucking weird. But I get unbelievably angry if I don’t finish the book when I start it, even if it takes me 8 hours to read it.
I google stuff i dont know about or understand to get the context better. It has led me to learning about American geography, Bach, Martha Stewart, Napolean, and many other things.
Matte. I can’t stand the feel. If it is hardcover, I’ll remove the dust jacket. Paperback? I’ll put clear packing tape over the cover. If you know me and the care I take of my books, you’ll appreciate how much I hate matte on covers.
The year it was published and I have to check the page numbers every time I turn the page then have to check it again before I close the book after reading for the night.
I like to have a clear picture in my head of what a character looks like. If they’re not described well I make something up, usually based on someone I know or an actor or person in the media. Then later on if that character is described differently, for example having dark hair when I’ve imagined them blond, I get quite cross
Deborah you need a kindle. I know it’s not the same as book. I prefer books too but you can read in the dark. Also looks up words, it’s so easy to get books and often they are free or cheap. A new kindle is under $100 closer to $50
@Deborah you can adjust the light and there are different one’s too. I like books better myself, but I’m getting used to it. The hardest thing is holding it. I think I need a case for it, it makes it easier to hold. Plus you can do everything with it, facebook, emails, etc.
The paperwhite kindle is backlit and when its dark you can turn the light down low so it’s not glaring at you. I notice if I have it too high I can’t fall asleep but if it’s low eventually my eyes get heavy.
Yes and keep reading because I have to know how did that happen. Meant to read the last couple of lines, but it was so interesting I read the whole page and just kept reading, lol.
I can read only if I don’t feel hydrated or hungry. Lol
I can only read for about 5 minutes at a time. Any longer than that I either fall asleep or get distracted.

None that I can think of except I never dogear a book.
If I wake up in middle of night I read by flashlight so I dont turn on lights because I would never get back to sleep and I only sleep 4-5 hours a nite
I don’t think I do – only thing I will do is finish a chapter before I stop reading. Don’t like to stop midway through.
I also like to stop reading at the end of a chapter.
I have a hard time reading in bed. I prefer the couch
After finishing a chapter, I have to flip through every page of the next chapter to see how many pages it is. Every time.
I do that too! Lol
Me too
Me too
Oh good I’m not the only one that does that
I need a bookmark under or over the line I’m reading. It helps me focus.

I do the same thing!
I read better when in bed
I use index finger to read fast ?
I prefer to read on my kindle, but need to own the physical copy of the book as well. I also update my place in said book – moving my bookmark along – after reading via kindle.
I often wonder if there are others who do the same… ?
I’m doing the same. I read on ibook and update in the physical one ?
I can never stop reading in the middle of a page. If I do stop in the middle of a chapter (which is rare), there has to be a completed paragraph at the bottom of the page.
Me too!! I don’t finish reading until I finish the chapter lol
When my Kindle Fire gets below 25% charged I am compelled to charge it and will stop reading. Actually even 30% makes me anxious. ha
I like to read out loud!
I tend to read sitting at my dining room table, even though I have a perfectly comfy futon to sit on.
Yeah I sometimes do this too…because if I sit anywhere more comfortable I will fall asleep
I can never stop reading on chapter 13, something terrible will happen if I do haha.
I quit smoking some 28 years ago, but every once in a while, I desperately miss having a smoke and a cup of coffee while reading. I never cheat, but I do miss it.
Smell each page of the book also when the caracter eating i feel hungry that why i keep alwayse snaks near by me
I choose bookmarks by the colour of the book cover
I have to stop on a chapter break not just because I need to do something else and the chapter still has 4 pages left.
Have to finish a chapter before I put the book down
Me too! And it has to be on an even numbered chapter or I get some weird and uncomfortable itch if I don’t do that.
I have to finish the book. It’s fucking weird. But I get unbelievably angry if I don’t finish the book when I start it, even if it takes me 8 hours to read it.
Even if you don’t like it??
@Keshia yeah ?
I’ve become more like that in recent years. I hate giving up on a book, even if it’s a bit dull.
I have to look at the year it was printed and the # of pages before I start reading it…
Me too. I also like to calculate how far along I am like a kindle would
I google stuff i dont know about or understand to get the context better. It has led me to learning about American geography, Bach, Martha Stewart, Napolean, and many other things.
The cover and the back of the book must be interesting. And i will pause mid plot if i am unhappy for a very long time. Days

I have several book series on the go… And sometimes I don’t want to finish a book because I will miss the characters
I have that feeling too.
i can never read another book unless i have finished my current one
@Sky, that’s me too. One book at a time.
The year it was published and I have to check the page numbers every time I turn the page then have to check it again before I close the book after reading for the night.
I read the first page after I finish the book.
I always read a fixed number of pages everyday. I know it come from the corporate life of 40 years. I am trying to break out of it.
Must finish a chapter before I put it down. Need to play with a fidget
Omg l do the same thing it feels wrong if l dont finish the chapter
Yes I read chapter to chapter.
I only read during daytime.
I like to have a clear picture in my head of what a character looks like. If they’re not described well I make something up, usually based on someone I know or an actor or person in the media. Then later on if that character is described differently, for example having dark hair when I’ve imagined them blond, I get quite cross
Me too! That’s why I tend to not watch the movie, I get very disappointed with the characters (and the script).
I read only hardcover

I am thinking of it but I hate reading from them Messes up my sleep rythmn The light from kindle is too bright
@Deborah you can adjust the light and there are different one’s too. I like books better myself, but I’m getting used to it. The hardest thing is holding it. I think I need a case for it, it makes it easier to hold. Plus you can do everything with it, facebook, emails, etc.
I havea good laptop and have got some free books with it but I have hard reading with it Oh well
I love my kindle it’s designed to have the same feel as a book, honestly couldn’t read on a laptop if I tried but my kindle I can
The paperwhite kindle is backlit and when its dark you can turn the light down low so it’s not glaring at you. I notice if I have it too high I can’t fall asleep but if it’s low eventually my eyes get heavy.
If a book is funny, I sit there laughing my head off completely unguarded. I don’t care who is in the room. I get SO into the story.
If I can’t get past the first page of a book it means I won’t read it.
Layla Ann Ashby I’m the same way except I might go a chapter until I chuck it.
Always keeping an Ereaders in my purse. A fully charged on no less.
2 e-readers one for home one in my bag.
I like to read 2 books at a time alternating them.
I used to read books backwards for years.
How you read back ward are mean starting by the last page ?
Yes and keep reading because I have to know how did that happen. Meant to read the last couple of lines, but it was so interesting I read the whole page and just kept reading, lol.
Spoiler ? hope you quite that bad habit
I sometimes read the last line of the book I just started.
