Andrea Ottinger Selby Depends on the friend. I think they would appreciate that they have someone to talk to about the story. Maybe don’t mention you read same copy. Lol

@Jennifer it’s for my mom and is set in WWII. She loves that. I could always check it out at the library and read it…duh…just thought of that.

@Andrea, I have the habit of bracketing and underlining paragraphs and quotes. I can never read something before gifting it.?

sometimes when I read a book, it makes me think of someone I know who will really like it, so I gift it to them. but it’s a just-because gift. I never read a book that was their main gift, but I don’t think that’s bad as long as you don’t crease the spine!

Yes, all of time because usual the genre and theme is important, not that I have read books before I give books like a present. And even I don’t like read books which I give presents before he/she who will get the presents.

All the time, for instance my best friend will only read autobiographies or real life accounts, by sporting personalities or “my prison hell in (insert brutal regime here)”. I don’t want to read them at all, but it makes me happy to buy them for him.

I NEVER give books as presents. I think the books you read, why or when you read them is too personal. I love books but don’t ever buy me a book.

Only if i knew they wanted one and which one or it was short inspirational stories.

I think it would be hard to gift a book. Unless it is someone who can read anything.

I have. I saw a book that looked kinda interesting and made an impulse buy. As I was reading the reviews, I found out that it was homophobic and transphobic. Decided to give it to a friend who was already homophobic anyway lol ?‍♀️
