When digital becomes more expensive than paperbacks, paperbacks will become the bigger seller.

I don’t own any digital books. I used to be all about the hardbacks. They’re nicer. But a hell of a lot more expensive. So I switched to paperback for the majority of my books.

I’m 58, & I don’t see physical books going away in my lifetime. Or beyond.

I saw digital books for sale at my local Walmart along with a few physical books so not sure if that’s an indication about physical books in general and if they will eventually disappear. I really hope not though as much as I love digital books I also love physical.

I read before bed and if I read digitally it stimulates my brain and I can’t sleep. So a paper book is definitely for me

I think most people buy ebooks if/when they are cheaper, or sometimes for convenience. I have never taken an ebook out of a library, have you?

75% of my personal reads I get from the Library are e-books. Free books that I can get from home.
I know you can get cheap to free e-books but the quality of book are usually not the best.

Deidra Potapa So, you don’t have to go out of the house.. that’s the convenience aspect I mentioned.

I think paperbooks will always be around. Many people still prefer real books to reading on a Kindle or other device. I hope so anyway. I really really miss all the bookstores…Waldenbooks, Brentano’s, Border Books…and I know there were others. I hope Barnes and Noble will always be around.

Plus the satisfaction of how many pages you have reading by the big chunk in your left hand ?

I don’t think paper books will ever disappear! If you look at the current trend, paper books are growing more and more popularity! Barnes and Noble is flourishing and Target has the largest selection of books that I have seen in a department store in ages! Or at least mine does…even Walmart is starting to get quite the book selection again!

I’ve only read two e-books. I read and prefer printed books, as does everyone I know amongst my family, friends and acquaintances that are readers. They’re not going anywhere.

My daughter will not read digitally and I kind of love it! I was a late adopter with my Nook, but I am addicted now. Not her, she even made the school get her text books rather than the digital version that they went to in recent years

I like both ebooks and paper books. I buy more ebooks these days but that is purely because they don’t take up shelf space. I have no intentions of ever going to just ebooks and I don’t think they will ever completely take over either.

Love physical books. I hate ebooks. I love being able to turn a page not push a button or slide my finger.

Paper books don’t need to be charged. Some people like to read in the tub.

I don’t think so. I work for a bookstore and we had a labor day sale that lasted 4 days. A HUGE amount of books were sold. I was amazed and happy.

Disappear. Save the trees, get a Kindle! 🙂 I think hard copy books will survive as a form of art: beautifully illustrated, heavy gorgeous volumes.

Fairly certain that they never went out of fashion.
Some people prefer hardcover, some prefer paperback.
Some can only afford paperback..
if they ever made a universal decision to get rid of paperback there would be uproar..

I think paper back books will be ok for a long time. Seeing as how you can’t rely on technology either due to a low charge or it shuts down.

Slowly making a comeback due to cheaper prices.

I think they’ll still be around. It’s a matter of preference. I loved to read books as a kid. Could never find enough room to store them all. Some people prefer to hold an actual book in their hands. They like the feel of the paper and love the thrill of turning actual pages. I was unable to read for several years because of an eye issue and just couldn’t read that tiny print. I bought my first kindle a couple years back and was over the moon happy that I could change the size of the font and read again! I love my kindle. It let me enjoy reading again.

Making a comeback? Is there a brief period of recent history of retired paperbacks that I missed ? I must be living under a paperback for ages if i missed this bit!

Paperbacks are Meryl Streep honey…they ain’t going nowhere…and they never went anywhere!!!

I love my Kindle Paperwhite. I have over 200 books on a device the same size as one book. I can change the size of the font, I can bookmark and highlight and easily find them later. If I think of a book I want I can look it up, buy it, and have it downloaded in just a few minutes. Kindle always has hundreds of books on sale for less than $3 and I’ve discovered authors I never would have because I’m more willing to pay $1.99 for an Ebook by an author I dont know than the same book for 7.99 in paperback. But I really miss browsing in a bookstore. All of the bookstores in my area have closed and the closest we have to a bookstore now is half of one side of an aisle at Wal-Mart. The thrift shops are always picked clean. The closest bookstore is 2 hours away and it’s a chain I don’t care for. Kindle is the best and pretty much the only option for me.

Paperbacks may seem outdated to you but a lot of book lovers prefer thrm. The feel of the pages and the physical copy excites them. As a writer I always offer that option.
