Now I’m retired I often find myself reading for hours on end…… only looking up from a book when I notice the light beginning to fade. Do I feel guilty…. no way!

I try to read all the time. Sometimes work and eating interfere. Sometimes I take a bicycle ride, to a place where I can read in peace.

When I am home in Sicily its nearly every afternoon and again in an evening. My husband usually has a nap in an afternoon then plays chess or bridge on my computer in an evening so it all works well. When I am in UK I am looking after my sister who has dementia and she gets very ratty if I pick up a book so since she goes to bed around 7.00. I do most of my reading then but find I stay up a lot later.

Tues-Fri, I read when I get in from work, stop to cook & eat, read some more, then either watch a bit of family tv, or read through sport on tv, or occasionally I go out. Weekends I read or, in Summer, go to cricket. Mondays, I catch up on reviews and occasionally do some housework! That’s my usual routine!!!

If I am on holiday, with a pool and a waiter to bring me drinks all day long, I read from waking to sleeping. The other 50 weeks of the year, whenever I am able to…sitting on a bus, tram, train, in a coffee shop, restaurant, waiting for a film to start, curled up in my chair…

Due to health issues, I have early retirement leaving me free to read as much or as little as I like. Just finished my 90th book for the year – keep track via goodreads. Always read in bed!
