I read little non-fiction. I loved it.
I listened to the audio which was a treat bc the first lady narrates her own book! ❤️ it.
@Venita me too! Best way to take in that book for sure! Loved it!
It was brilliant. Another one you may enjoy (technically not a biography but about her life) is Chanel No 5 about Coco Chanel’s life.
Thought it was great. Totally candid.
Working on it now
Loved it! Quite an uplifting story.
I didn’t really enjoy Becoming. It starts ok, learning about her early years, but after she met Barrack I felt the book featured mostly about him. Absolutely that’s a big part of her life, but it seemed to overtake her. Just my opinion. Most of my Bookclub loved the book.
@Nena That’s what I was concerned about. I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, but politics were such a huge part of her life that I felt that the book couldn’t help but address that time in her life and end up with Mr. Obama being the main focus.
@Alice half the book was about him. From when he turned up in her life, the book changed to political campaigning. That’s where it lost me. ?
I love it! Very inspiring!
I thought she was a beautiful writer
I don’t usually read biographies/memoirs but this was great! I listened on Audible and she narrates- it felt like chatting with a friend. Her life story is impressive, and there are fun stories about her and Barack and about the White House. Somehow though, it manages to not be political. Great read!
It was ok, I didn’t know much about her personal life. I liked that I got to know her as herself and not as the First Lady.
I’d never read a memoir either & I loved it. It’s fantastic ♥️
Loved it
She’s a good storyteller.
I’m on my library’s waiting list.
I’m listening to it now-read by the author, I’m enjoying it-it’s a sweet, good family story
Yes! Daughter & I listened on a car trip & missed her when it was over!
@Beth ! I know, love her voice-I feel like she’s talking to me personally a little…
SAME. We both fangirled quite a bit. Even sped up to 1.5, she still sounded like herself.
Was that an audible I have heard of the but know anything about them.
“Nothing about them”
@Karen yes, it’s on Audible but I ordered it through my library app-so it was free.
I loved it
Loved it!!
I find Michelle a really great speaker and I feel like I’d be interested to learn more about her, I’m not an American though so I’m not really interested in US politics. Would I still enjoy it?
@Ellen I think so! It’s not really political in nature, just the story of her life and family, which is very relatable and inspiring!
@Ellen
And when I finished it I almost felt like I lost a friend
Reading it now!
I really enjoyed it because she was so fresh and honest about how she didn’t want to do the politics thing and then her trying to find her voice and passion as First Lady. You forget that First Ladies are supposed to have agendas and how she wanted to advocate for issues important to her
I am interested but haven’t yet.
Got the book. Going to read it. Everyone I know loved it
Wonderful book…she is an inspiration.
??????
She is an excellent writer and her story is an inspiration.
I don’t share a lot of her same views on life in general but she is an excellent writer and I loved it. Best book of its type I’ve read! You won’t regret reading it!
Wonderful book ..shes a lovely storyteller
Love it
Absolutely loved it.
I loved the audiobook bc Michelle Obama narrates and I felt like she was just chatting with me recalling events in her life that influenced her and led her to become the woman she is today. I learned a lot about the civil rights era and growing up in Chicago during those years. It’s an exceptional read and I highly recommend.
I also really enjoyed the audiobook that I got through Overdrive/Libby from my library. I felt her narration made it even more enjoyable! I didn’t find it “political” and think someone who isn’t interested in politics would enjoy it as well.
I enjoyed it. Very well written.
I must be the only person who didn’t enjoy it, I got it for Christmas and have only just finished it.
@Lorraine you aren’t. Not for me
I must admit she holds no interest for me.
@Debbie same here ?♀️
@Jen I found it a hard slog and gave up. Daughter who was enjoying the audiobook at first, gave up also.
I enjoyed it easy read A bit to perfect perfect Husband perfect family perfect upbringing perfect children but still interesting.I admire her she has and will continue to do a lot of good on her terms though.
Reading it now and struggling to get through it
I don’t plan on reading it
I loved it.
Hearing it on audible and enjoying it very much.
Just brilliant
Loved it!

I did enjoy it. I don’t often read biographies myself but really wanted to read this one. Not for her political beliefs but as a successful woman and first black FLOTUS. Also I listened to most of it in Audible and she narrated it herself. So that was cool.
yes, it was intimate as if you were having a conversation with her. It was also very informative about issues and circumstances about which I knew very little.
Tried reading my prime minister’s wife’s biography. That’s how I found out I preferred fiction.
I have the book on my TBR pile and it will be my next Audible purchase too.
Those of you who won’t read it because of your political beliefs, can you (without turning this into a political thread !) tell me why ?
As someone who is quite political, I enjoy reading about ALL sides of politics… personally I feel that it gives me a more balanced perspective of how both sides work.
Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone was like this?
@Jennifer, wouldn’t it just ! How fabulous it would be to be able to have a good discussion about politics (or anything really!) without resorting to a slanging match !
@Patty, differing opinions are great and people should never be afraid to voice them ! Unfortunately what happens is that the internet has encouraged people to castigate anyone who has a differing opinion when it should be encouraging people to discuss, debate and respect the differences. Which, of course, is only my opinion ?
Exactly. Unless you listen or read about both sides, almost impossible to make an informed judgement.
@Annette You’re a breath of fresh air!! Unfortunately, most people are just interested in validating their own poorly supported opinions rather than learning and expanding.
I’m reading it now I love it
I loved it.
Just started listening to the audio book version. 28 minutes in and bawling like a baby
@Faith who is the reader?
Michelle!
Loved it!
It was great. Much better than I expected.
Great read!
I am reading t now – very interesting and an easy read
I’m reading it now, and it’s a great read.
yes very inspiring
It’s very good. Engaging and very well writing… conversational. I’m about ½ way through it. I also read fiction at the same time… so I’m reading 3 books right now…
For those who have read it, is it super political? I’ve been thinking about reading it but reading is my escape from politics and I don’t want more of it!
@Baylee nope, and she talks about how she doesn’t really like politics either! Lol
I just bought the audio version, I got it for my vacation. I leave Sunday… cannot wait to listen!!!
Nope. Just not interested.
Same.
yawn
loved it
I bought it for my daughter in law and she loved it. I haven’t got around to reading it yet x
Its fantastic
Only about 1/3 of the book covers the White House years. Most of it is about her own personal story as a girl from the south side of Chicago who is very accomplished in her own right. I found it very inspirational.
I really enjoyed it. I could really relate to her mother.
Good book
I agree Cheryl. I really enjoyed it. I also listened to her read some of it o the BBC sounds site
Still waiting for my reservation from the library!!
I’m waiting until it turns up in our book recycle shop. Maybe next year but I’m ok with that.
Just downloaded it.
She is very candid and you learn things about her early years that we’re not told before
I enjoyed it. It was so easy to read. She is truly inspirational.
I enjoyed it……truly inspiring
A Canadian opinion
Loved it
My husband has it. It’s too heavy for me to read cause I only read in bed so shall have to buy electronic version
Loved it!
