No, it is not a classic and this topic for discussion, is in my opinion, utter nonsense!

Why is it not a classic? A sweeping statement isn’t really helpful.

I’ve not read it, so can’t comment on the book itself, but a classic can be defined as something that was written a significant period ago which still has resonance in the current climate. A classic can be in any genre, so why not a SciFi classic. War of the Worlds would be one, in my opinion, so why not this?

Btw, I have read it and it is most definitely a classic in my opinion

I’m half way through and it’s really good. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor and I find myself laughing at parts. Then you realize the serious point has trying to make…

“even though it’s sci-fi?”
I OBJECT! The question assumes Science Fiction is somehow excluded from the annals of classic literature. Frankenstein, 1984, Brave New World, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea are all Literature and Science Fiction.
The Martian Chronicles are often listed among the classics of Science Fiction, yes. Ray Bradbury is a phenomenal writer. My favorite of his (thus far) is the short story “There Will Come Soft Rains.”

@Tammy all great reads , wells’s books too?

I’d rather Farenheit 451. Probably because The Martian Chronicles was mandatory in my school, but the other I simply choose it.
But, yes, it could be more like modern classic. Guess that if it survives for more than a century could be consider classic.
