@April I believe the same, but most importantly is how we get the message behind the story itself. Some ppl need to listen to it, some to see it

If I listen to one, yes. It’s still a book.

This reminds me of the times when my parents were reading books to me (I count those are my first books)

For sure! I have such a busy life right now that the only time I can “read” is listening to my books during commutes and house chores.

Cath

Yes and no since I have a habit of falling asleep and missing parts so for me it’s probably quicker to read the book than listen to the audio book

1
Reply
AndreeaQuestion author

@Cath I ALWAYS fall asleep when listening to an audiobook in the evenings. Morning is the workaround. Does falling asleep when listening to an audio have anything to do with childhood?! If so, this would make sense 😀

@Jill there is a start for everything 🙂 well done. A great habit. Still reading remains my favour way to “consume” content

1
Jill

Reading is my favorite too but we found that this is something that my husband and I can do together.

0
Lisa

No, but only because I don’t use them. I like to read a book myself, not have it read to me.

Of course. You wouldn’t tell a blind person they couldn’t do a goodreads challenge or say that they don’t read at all, because they may use audiobooks? No because that would be rude. They’re still consuming the story. Original stories were told around campfires and passed on by word of mouth. Not written down at first. Some people need to think before they speak ?

AndreeaQuestion author

@Alli great point! The greatest stories I’ve heard were word of mouth.

1
Diana

That’s what I was thinking. However you find the story (eyes, ears, fingertips), it’s still a new story that you have access to. What’s not to love about that? 🙂

Sharing stories via an auditory medium instead of a physical medium(like physical books) existed far before an alphabet was even formed, so absolutely yes. What matters is the story, not the format.

AndreeaQuestion author

Megan this reminds me of women that run with wolves book which is full of oral stories. Some, would not exist anymore today if the author was not collecting them from old women from far aware tribes/villages ?

0
Julie

Yes, I listen to one book while I’m at work, and read another at home.
