Amazing!

Alejandrina

Love this one. I especially enjoyed reading it
In installments when it was released. The anticipation for the new installment every month was killing me ?

1
Rasmus

I bought it one book at a time aswell.
I was 15 and worked after school at a local pizzaria. First book(s) I ever bought with money I had earned.

1
Alejandrina

@Rasmus my sister used to work at target and i would call her at work to make sure she checked when the new part was out. It was exciting when I would get the next installment. I still have them.

Rasmus

Someone borrowed mine 20 years agobor so, and never returned them. I replaced them just last year.
I remember the first book came with a t-shirt.

1
Ru

I bought them in installments as well, and remember showing up a week early at the bookstore and not being able to get the next part. Talk about having book disappointment!

2
Alejandrina

@Ru ugh that’s the worst thing ever!

1
Alejandrina

@Rasmus that’s a bummer. I don’t think I got a t-shirt. ?

0
Rasmus

It had like red sunset-ish design of the prison on it. Like the cover of the first book.

@Rasmus those look nicer than mine. Lol. Mine are well loved. What language are they in?

0
Rasmus

@Alejandrina Danish. Useally read English when I can, but these I read in danish back in the day.

1
Rasmus

And I have a thing for bad translation. Not that these are though.

1
Alejandrina

@Rasmus seriously? That’s interesting. I can read in Spanish. I have some books that have been translated to Spanish. I’m inspired to read them now. lol

0
Rasmus

Years back, translations were done by who ever did it the fastest.
With that in mind a gurney ended up being a person in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest”
And in “The Island of Dr. Moreau” the grate on the ship ended up being a grater (like a cheese grater).
They rely less on speed and more on quality now.

1
Alejandrina

@Rasmus that’s horrible.

0
Rasmus

Yes.. and really fun to read. I can see the annoyance for some, but I find it hilarious.

Really? ??‍♂️
Just seemed like a pointless read and rushed ending.

@Kylie brilliant comment.
Yeah I understand what you mean, think I really like the idea of not knowing what’s a dream or reality.

1
Kylie

It was a good premise just didn’t really achieve the great heights I expected.

See if you can find the short story collection that includes Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption (yes, the story the movie was based on). I think it’s called Different Seasons. The collection also includes the novella that became the movie Stand By Me and Apt Pupil, which was also made into a movie. But really, just look for the Shawshank story. It’s amazing how well it translated into a movie.

Different seasons, Four past midnight, The girl who loved Tom Gordon & The green mile were all good! Currently reading Gerald’s game and enjoying it! I prefer his short stories or smaller novels over his large books. Personally find his bigger book drag and alot of rambling

The eyes of the dragon, it’s more for kids and teenage tho but I loved reading it. It kinda takes you back to the little you still it has some horror light into it that makes you shiver.
Also, all of the books he wrote and signed as Richard Bachman, running man, the regulators and two or three more titles. It’s a dystopia/horror/thriller.
