I liked them a lot!!! I read them before they made the movies so I was able to imagine the characters without the actors in my head.

I didn’t too much enjoy them. I follow a few people in the bdsm lifestyle on social media, and they said some aspects of the life were not accurate and could be harmful.

I hated it. Gray was Creepy and whatever that girls name was acted like she never heard of sex before.

They sure are not the best books on earth, but an easy read. I liked the love story, could have done without the details of the sex scenes to be honest. I skipped them most of the times, because it was the same a lot if the times. But Christian and Ana are a great couple.

I second your thoughts.

I read the first one and hated it. I found it all kinds of creepy. He wanted to control her everywhere, not just in the bedroom. That’s not romantic, it’s abusive.

Actually it’s just about a abused child and he learned he could be loved and he could. His books definitely are amazing made me cry she should have definitely wrote his side first I think. I definitely get the asshole people think he is many times I could smack him but o my gosh his pov is amazing

0
Meisha

Him being abused doesn’t make him abusing her okay though. A lot of people also do not feel well represented in the BDSM pov

1
Krista

He isnot abusive. Controlling yes ocd yes. He showed her gave her the choice. She stayed. He never ever touched her or took in there unless it was her wanting too.. Seems people forget this part. Abuse is him beating her doing whatever to her period. The books ended how they ended

0
Lisa

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

0
Krista

Yes and that’s okay. Maybe I see it different because of who I am. I was abused by my x step monster whom mom was married to. That was form ages 6-10 and I live in a abusive marriage for over 10 years.. I love hearing others views on the books at least you can be nice znf respective with others on these books. People can get down right mean and nasty.
These books actually gave me the idea to combine both my passions music, and helping the abused. So I am working on doing just that.. Goal is to open a dance pole fitness studio to that teaches abused only to love themselves. Teens is my first goal to meet though.. The domestic advocate world can show just this that teens have higher numbers than adults in domestic abuse. I have 6 daughters I can’t not try to help this..

1
Lisa

Good luck meeting your worthy goals! The teen domestic abuse statistics are indeed troubling.

Yes I have to finish school and stuff but I will get there.. It’s a passion not a job for Me

I hated it and I didn’t even bother to read the last one.

I can only describe the writing as a child writing a book and giving it to her mom to add sex. I couldn’t stand the writing

Kelly

THIS. ?

1
Nada

This is exactly why I put it down after like 30 pages

1
Grace

Yes! And then the mom gave the child a thesaurus and said “use bigger words in a few places to make it better” so there are oddly placed larger words that no one uses.

I disliked the way they brought a community to the light for the world in a way that is not representative of the community. Christian was abused and he needed to seek counseling and not stalk someone, ply them with gifts, and do everything in his power to sign a contract she was not into. I get it started as a Twilight fanfic and you can tell. But as that book has problematic issues with that relationship, eh.

2
Reply
Amber

It doesn’t display the community in a good light. A lot of the things she mentioned are frowned upon and looked down on in that community. I don’t feel like she researched her subject very well.

0
Lynette

@Amber, no she didn’t at all. I think what she did is took the possessive feeling Edward had for Bella and just slapped BDSM on it because to the outside world the “dominate” and “submissive” seem kind of to be like that. Then, Ana’s reluctance to sign the contract and wanting a relationship was mirror to Bella’s desire to be a vampire, for him to chose her and no one else.

Yeah, it is apparent she deleted names and just slapped some things together. A DANGEROUS way to portray a community.

2
Kelly

I love them. They aren’t the best written novels under any circumstances, but I still really enjoyed the story. As long as you understand the BDSM stuff isn’t totally accurate to a normal BDSM lifestyle, you’re good to read them and make your own decision.

0

Meg

True that. I read the first book and laughed so hard ticking off all the ways it was nonsense.

0
Kelly

I didn’t know anything about that kind of lifestyle, so when I read the books I was like “wow, this is really interesting.” Then I did a bunch of research and was like “so inaccurate!” ?

Read them, enjoyed them… Low level plot and lots and lots of sex. Should not be taken as a real BDSM relationship. It is very similar style of writing and characters to twilight.

Because it was twilight fanfiction. True facts.

I couldn’t finish it. Every single page said the Christian was so handsome. I got it after page 5. Also the writing was juvenile.

The tampon scene made me die a little bit inside. ???

0

Not for me.. it was not researched, the standard of language was poor with lots of same statements being repeated.. And the character setting was nowere to be seen.. like a 20year old has a job which she can leave and join to her fancy…

There is 5 gonna be 6 it’s not really over because his side his books really tell the entire story because Its his love story not hers. So we can read her side all day long but to really really understand him you got to read his side

I read about half of the first book and this is my review:

Quality is on the grammar and vocabulary level of a 3rd grader who has access to a thesaurus. Unfortunately, the subject matter is either super vapid conversations or sex so bad that you can literally feel your egg climb back into your uterus.

Also, such a lack of realism. He sends her a macbookpro with 32GB of RAM? Yeah, that wasn’t a thing. A college student who doesn’t have email? Nope.

Themes are… Not even okay for guilty pleasure. First, BDSM culture is not like that. Second is the obsessive nature of his coercive control he displays over her due to the sexual abuse his experienced as a youth. Throughout the novel she is CLEARLY not okay with just about anything he wants or does but he feels justified in imposing his own rules on her. He uses his money, her inexperience and his dominant personality to begin to control every aspect of her life and the novel does not put this in the dangerous context it should be.

This book should be the biography of a future victim murdered by her partner, not a romance.

The problem is that when you read fan fiction you don’t expect much from the writing or grammar, but enjoy the stories some of the experience and inexperienced come up with, but that’s just the thing. If you see these stories turn into novels and get published you don’t expect them to not be edited correctly or the story made more interesting then just changing the names of the characters and that’s it……….Enjoyed it when it was fan fiction not so much as a series.

idk. i kinda liked the first book tho it didn’t have anything much abt it except for the bdsm contract/relationship and that Christiam didn’t wanna get touched.
book 2, i thought the sex scenes got less and more on to the relationship bet Christian and Anna and some psycho ex bdsm partner is on the loose and another psycho boss wanna get his hands on Anna..
third book was more interesting for me. there was a lot into Christian’s back story, his history with Mrs. Robinson (idk if this is what Anna calls her ?)
i like the Christian Grey book better.

I loved it as a teen but as I got older it rubbed me the wrong way. He’s really abusive and needs counseling but the only thing that didn’t get him locked up was the fact that he had money and spoiled her. She was dull and simple minded and the only reason he liked her was because she looked like his mother ? The sex was amusing but…it would of been better if it wasn’t contracted and he didn’t push her boundaries

I personally loved them. I thought it was exciting and a fun read! The books are obviously better and more detailed than the movies but the movies are still good!
Honestly I feel like there is people who hate this book and then there is people who love it, so I say just give it a go and make your own opinion on it. ?

Read all 3 and liked them ok. I read them before I knew they were twilight fan fic. Read the twilight series after, 50 is a total ripoff, no idea, how she got away with it haahaa..
They are not quality literature. Me and a group of friends read them and made it a game. It took a weekend to read all 3. For all the hype of the sex it was fairly redundant “I felt the tightening in my stomach and he gave me the ok so came like a linebacker” still though I dug the characters. And saw both movies, loved the 1st hated the 2nd. And it made me HATE the twilight books. I’m going to read the set from Christians POV.

A friend of mine and I did a bet she gave me three books I gave her three. She gave me those. We had to finish them. I still regret it. It was, and I never called a book this before those, garbage. There’s no plot. The characters are plain, the relationship forced, the development forced. The lines and descriptions are in many cases a rip off from the twilight series, the grammar was that of a kindergarten. I honestly will tell you that it isn’t worth a second of your time.

Excruciating. The bones were there but the writing was just so bad. She needed an editor and a fact checker. And someone needed to gag that effing “inner goddess” …she was so annoying.

For erotic books they aren’t the best but the popularity got women reading them and talking about sex more. At the time they came out I was selling sex toys and adult novelties it was great for business.

Yes! There are so much better books if you want to read erotica. Especially kinky erotica.

1
Rula

It was really horrible because it didn’t show the real meaning and passion of love.

2
Reply
Cheryl

I don’t feel that statement is totally accurate . Because love is trusting in your partner and allowing one to be self. I felt that it was established in the book, otherwise she would of never allowed him to have his way with her.

1
Rula

What I meant was that there are other books show a different side to love.

0
Cheryl

@Rula true!

Just curious how you think this? On second thought don’t answer that here we cant without spoilers for the poster. I am really interested on this view it’s one I have not heard on these books. I see it totally different reading his pov though

Tried to read it, only got a few chapters in and had to put it down. The stalking and terrible writing was enough. Heard that later the stalking progresses into rape and abuse, which makes me think I dodged a bullet.
